michel lane
I have a question to ask. For several weeks i have been getting chest pains and buzzing noises. I do feel tired very often and i know that my work environment is not that relaxed. Well to day i went over to my brothers house and he was taking a blood pressure reading on his new machine. He has high blood pressure problems for years and he has this machine to keep an eye on things . His reading was 132/82 and he is 60 years old. Well he took mine to show me how the machine worked. How does this sound , 3 seperate readings and the values were : 143/104 - 140/101 - 142/100 he tells me this is high . what should i do ? any help would be appricated ? tooquicktostop
Hi mate I joined a new doctors in Jan 2009 and as a routine they took my BP, it had not been done for years, it was 200/105, the nurse nearly passed out, she got me straight in with a doctor, your first reading is on the high end of OK but the 100 needs attention for sure, you may have been seeing some white coat syndrome as you are worried but you must get it checked I visited the doctor every month and ended up on medication which took almost a year to work out, my current BP is 140/80 and is OK (not 100%) Get yourself looked at by a doctor..............please

caseys
You should have around 120/80. You drink a lot of caffiene or booze/smoke lots? 140/100 the 140 could be caused by being tired, stressed or caffiened up but your diastolic of 100 is a concern. I'd definitely go see a doctor when you can next week especially with your symptoms. The chest pains aren't constant are they??? The ringing I the ears can be because of a high systolic but 140 isn't too high. For instance my missus had 165/90 after drinking 2 litres of coke the 12 hours later she was in labour... If you did have 165/90 though and was in hospital when they found that they wouldn't be sending you home straight away. Both my parents are medical, mum just semi retired after 30 years of nursing. RedM
Get some Celery down your neck. One stick per day for a week can lower your BP by 10%. It was one of the foods recommended to me when I had high BP. Drink plenty of water too. Better that than a life on Statins.
Cerikbok
Sounds like a classic case of Hypertension (Fancy for High Blood Pressure). Here is more information, definitely get it checked out with the doctor. If exercise and diet treatments don't work they will usually jump to meds, depends on how severe they believe your case is. My mother has been a nurse for 15 years (Specializing in the elderly where high BP runs rampant) and her whole side of the family is nurses. I am also a pre-med student. It is usually easily treated but obviously can lead to many things to include aortic aneurysms. Hope you get it all taken care of! http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000468.htm

Abz
Michael as advised get yourself check out as soon as possible. If you feel the pain in the chest getting worse then get to A&E as soon as possible or ring 999. My mother has high blood pressure & I didn't know how serious it was until I had to ring an ambulence & they advised that it can lead to all sorts of complications. Just a quick search on google came up with this, not sure if you are having similar symptons. http://www.doctorslounge.com/chest/forums/backup/topic-26533.html

I think high salt intake can be a significant contributing factor too........
Ricky49
Maybe they are a little high but did you have them taken straight away after walking around. You need to be sat still for at least 5mins. If your concerned get them checked at the quacks.

Wez
Get it sorted at the docs matey, it's a little high but fixable, just be glad you caught it. As already mentioned people go years without knowing until something worse happens. Some lifestyle changes and possibly a daily med and you will be sorted

AndrewOW
sounds like your a walking corpse!! get to the docs man or you will be dead soz fella... I think that goes for all of us, eventually I had mine checked not that long ago, and mne was dangerously high, but I definitely have white coat syndrome, as subsequent tests it came down hugely. I have also gone on to a low salt, fresh meat, high veg/fruit diet and no microwave meals for about 6 months now, I've lost a stone and feel much better for it, even though I'm not overweight. Good luck with it, and small changes to your diet can make a real difference Most importantly, don't panic!
