Matt_J
Has anyone got one. Are they any good? Better than a standard auto/manual?
Timwildman
I think there better but I would. It's basically a normal auto with the added gear change buttons on the wheel. Oh and you get vvti so smoother torque curve. Which makes it feel even better.
Chris Wilson
Only downside is a distinct lack of technical and wiring info for them, if something goes wrong. hvae been spedd limit remaoval and speedo conversion issues affecting the shift quality / RPM , too. Matt_J
Are they 4 speed autos or 5?
Bobbeh
4 speed m8.
Matt_J
Can it be grafted on to the standard auto then?

adi2009
Can it be grafted on to the standard auto then? Like CW said there is not much info on wiring them etc. so chances are that it s gonna be very tough setting it up on a normal auto.
Chris Wilson
In practical terms no, but throw enough money at most problems and they go away.
JustGav
I was under the impression that the auto box was actually pretty much the same if not identical, but the ecu which does the controlling of gearbox was different... They are both A340 boxes.....HOWEVER toyota list both the NA and TT box as an A340E, but the TT box has an extra valve or something... Kopite
4 speed m8. does the tiptronic have 6 gears though? or you talkint about the straight forward autobox Bob?
JustGav
Nope the tiptronic is also a 4 speed box... All the MKIV auto boxes are 4 speed, and they ALL have the designation A340E which doesn't help, since there are differences.. Gav
D3xt3r
If you want Tip Tronic on the standard auto box just get something called Suprastick.

Matt_J
I would rather stick with the toyota tiptronic system. Does anyone know of anyone who has this Suprastick system?
geoffvalenti
Tiptronic auto is good. It makes shifting the lazy autobox so much easier. Not that I'm complaining about the auto, its just that it seems a bit reluctant to change down when cruising in town/traffic, without what I'd call, excessive amounts of throttle. Using the buttons on the steering wheel ensures that you're always in the right gear at the right time, without stuffing it up the arse of the car in front (even if it is a Toyota )
Guest Mike Leavy
I've got a late '99 VVTI Tiptronic. Couldn't compare it with a standard coz its the only one I've EVER driven! Can't complain (love it!!) but do find the traction control inhibits it. Maybe need RLTC??
