madwoody1
Have a couple of things on my mind. Alot of people put restrictor rings in a j spec supra why is this? the reason i ask is if you have the said ring in the spool up time on the turbos goes down (well it does on mine). so if you have a boost controller installed does it 1 control the boost by operating valves to control the boost at a set presure 2 limit the high boost by operating a valves so as to not have to much presure in the system 3 limit the low boost some how i've asked these questions because i can't understand why we put a restrictor ring in, my car has not had one in for about three years now i've been messing around with the apexi valve which because of the size it makes it a restrictor ring of about 1.25 bar Just wondered if there was anyone out there who knows (not thinks they know or was told by someone else) that you need a restrictor ring in if the spelling is off well tough:d if the question seems stupied then answer it and see if anyone else comes back with a different answer
Nic
A boost controller can only raise the boost level, it cannot lower the boost. The catalytic convertors are a restriction in the exhaust on a standard car and help to keep boost to around 0.8bar. Remove the cats and you remove this restriction, the problem on the J-spec Supra is that the wastegate is too small and cannot now flow enough exhaust gasses to regulate the boost levels. The ideal solution would be to have a bigger wastegate to control the boost level, but this is not an option on the standard turbo housing. A cruder but far simpler and cheaper solution is to fit a restrictor ring in the exhaust, this restricts the flow of exhaust gasses and helps keeps boost levels to a safe limit. Swampy442
You need a restrictor ring because the stock wastegate on the 1st turbo isnt big enough to control the boost and the send turbo doesnt have a wastegate so it would wuickly overspeed/boost. And as Nic said boost controllers dont lower boost
