Porky1978
After the demise of the runaround Corsa that died a death i decided to get a car that i have wanted for ages, a gen7 Celica. Picked it up 2 weeks ago and was really happy with the way it drives, handles, accelerates etc. Having driven back from Manchester to Stoke i checked the oil water etc and found it to have used a little oil. Not too worried as it was just serviced i took it to Halfords and bought some Castrol Magnatec (£40 for 4 litres) and topped it up. Having done around 500 miles i have now put almost all of the 4 litres of oil into it!!! Luckily the garage i bought it from has offered to give me my money back, so i am driving it back on saturday. Now i need to find a replacement in the region of £3k. Would prefer the same car to be honest. Think i just dropped on a bad one. The search begins now. marcAB10
that kinda sucks, are these celicas know for having any engine issues? hope you find a better one next time.
Porky1978
Never heard of any issues until i searched when mine started using more oil than petrol!! Apparently the earlier engines only have 4 cutaways in the piston, later changed to 8! Wish i had checked sooner lol. Oh well.
Guest jdwals
Unlucky but at least the garage are being fair about it - that takes a lot of the hassle out of the situation for you. Did you think of going 6th Gen - always found them to be the nicer car to the 7th. Just don't get the 7th design. Guess it is the same with the Prelude of that time too - 4th Gen is way nicer than the 5th Gen to my eyes. Just think of what we had back then, Celica's Preludes, FTO's, MX-6's, and then spread it wider to the 2 seater and then the bigger engined cars and compare it to what we have now. Crikey's the '90's were great for Jap motors.

Porky1978
Trying to find a decent GT4. Fancy something with a turbo now Either that or Golf/Leon 1.8 20 valve turbo.
Willson
The 7th Gen 140 pre-facelift oil consumption issue is very well known. There was a recall for it. Though it "apparently" doesn't affect all cars. Always a good idea to do some research when spending thousands of pounds I got a gen 6, because they are better built

paulrenn
Check on http://www.gt4oc.com, usually lots of GT-Fours for sale on the forum there, and prices seem to be rock bottom.
Attero
Much prefer the Gen 6. And the ST205 (GT4) is the best. Was going to get one before I decided a Supra instead.
tbourner
I have to say I thought the new Celica was horrible when I drove works one. It's small and cramped and everythings hard and jerky, but it doesn't have the performance to make me happy to put up with the harshness.
