Tricky-Ricky
I want to run some engine OBD-11 software on a screen in my new car, run from an old laptop, my question is can you get a converter to go from the laptop VGA or even S-video to an RCA video with sound as well if pos? And also the screen is NTSC so i presume that could be a problem, so is the output dependant on what the laptop outputs? or can this also be coveted in the process? Smallshinyant
VGA is tricky to convert to RCA/S-video. what model of laptop is it? the older ones often had an s-video out built in.
Branners
there are VGA to s-video/composite adapters. We use them at work. Have a gander at http://www.misco.co.uk as thats where I got my last one from. It was a Startech.com one and it was around £30 or so.
Tricky-Ricky
Thanks guys but you misunderstand, my laptop has both VGA and S-video out, i just though i would include both as options, as i don't know which would be the easier to convert from. I know both VGA and S-video have the separated video signals so they need some kind of converter in order to use a single video RCA? But further to that once converted to the RCA, is the signal PAL or NTSC? and what can be done to convert to NTSC should it be PAL.
Smallshinyant
got ya. s-video to RCA would be easiest. plenty of cables available, have a play around with your video settings on the laptop you should be able to adjust the output video settings, from pal/ntsc and refresh rate, if you dont have these settings you may need to update your video driver. You will need another cable for your audio though but again lots of cables available to slip from 3.5mm jack to rca's

Will have to check my older laptop and see if thats any better, but i doubt it, is there any converters for this available? or is there a further solution?
