Jamesy
Does anyone know if the BL autobox still keeps the manu mode option like the stock box does? I am also fitting a Greddy inlet manifold which will disable manu mode. . . . The problem here is when we try and dyno the car the rolling road guys always use manu mode to run the dyno. How do auto's with a BL box and an aftermarket inlet manifold get around this?? Muchos
Swampy442
Why does the inlet manifold affect the gearbox operation? I would assume, although I dont actually know, the BL box should operate as the stock one does.
Jamesy
I think its due to the traction control operation on the stock inlet manifold all coming out in place of the greddy manifold just a bit concerned that if we cant somehow keep manu mode we wont be able to get it reading properly on the dyno
Jamesy
I'm sure there must be a way around this though ......
tDR
AFAIK you'll effectively disable the TRAC system by removing the TRAC butterfly that's in the standard inlet, much like pulling the TRAC fuse which will make your shifts harsher as no throttle muting when the autobox goes for the shift. That's something you do on the standard autos anyways when on the dyno - pull the TRAC fuse. So long as you still have the TRAC ECU in place, MANU mode should still work. Mine didn't have that and wouldn't dyno - always wanted to down a gear and jump out the dyno. My BL box was fine without TRAC but I always drove it just in D on the road after breaking one which was blamed on shifting manually, the theory being the line pressures are already increased on the BL box and MANU mode also increases line pressure so the two together creates too high a line pressure and a broken box. Cheers, Brian.
Jamesy
Thanx Brian will discuss this with Lee. To be honest i wont use the manu mode, but i remember SRR saying they cant dyno an auto without it being in manu mode for the same reasons u stated above. If, with the greddy inlet manifold, we can still use manu mode for the dyno's then we're all good
Stonkin
Am i right in thinking the BL boxes dont have OD, just 3 gears? Totally off topic, but i was reading the thread thinking, BL boxes dont have manu, but then realised it was OD i was thinking of, or was it... tDR
Nah they have OD as per OEM - you're thinking of the TH400 conversions. What you really don't wanna do with a BL box is forget you've left OD off.... get to 140 ish on the MWay racing a Porker then switch it on whilst flat out cos you hit the rev limiter - you then get the most almighty shit yourself B-A-N-G!!! and think you left your box on the MWay as it goes for the full load, high line pressure change Not that I'd know that from experience or anything
Jamesy
Lol that sounds painful Brian, and a tad expensive!! So when doing drag racing with the BL is it best to simply leave it in D and go for it? And are u best to have OD on or off?
tDR
I tried both and didn't notice a difference but habit was to leave OD off.
Jamesy
Thanx again mate, good to know as long as we can keep the manu mode with the new greddy inlet manifold and the BL box we will be fine for the dyno @ SRR
hodge
fitting an aftermarket plenum without the sub tps and trac stepper motor removes the manual mode. I tried everything from fitting the sensors to ttrying to trick them by removing springs etc and to no evail. If you work out how to do i would love to know. Jamesy
that doesnt sound promising John the thing is i dont want to drive the car in manu mode, but without it how is it possible to get a proper dyno reading?!
Ryan.G
that doesnt sound promising John the thing is i dont want to drive the car in manu mode, but without it how is it possible to get a proper dyno reading?! How about bring the old trac part of the TB and then we can just connect it up on the dyno and leave it floating in the engine bay out of the way
