Hi

I am having a problem with my supra, it is when i am driving in 3 th gear or 4th, 5th and 6 th gear and accelerating from 3000 rpm and then the revs slip to 4000 rpm and then goes done to 3000 rpm and then the car starts to accelerating. This only happens on this revs from 3000 - 4000rpm.

Could it be that the clutch is bad? Or maybe there is some boost leak?

Thanks

which clutch is good, i was thinking of RSP stage 2 clutch with OEM flywheel and maybe TRD Twin Disc but this one has some rattle noise under idle.

I have a 2000 VVTI TT6 BPU, I also am shopping for a clutch, I've done a lot of research and on top of my list right now for a performance clutch is the South Bend OFE Stage 3.

The OFE kit combines the newest technology in linings: A Feramic full face lining on the flywheel side and a "Medium Metal" content Organic lining on the pressure plate side. This combination runs cooler and significantly extends clutch life. The OFE series clutch not only engages very smooth, it has the torque capacity of other Stage 4 clutch kits. This state of the art kit is what everybody wants when it comes to street performance.

Also have a look at the thread below imi rates it high..!

quote below from adnanshah247

'id give it 10/10 so far. easy to fit, great customer service, its actually cheaper than the centre force, drives like stock. call the guy at southbend and he will best advise you on the clutch you specifically need.'

Stock clutch should be fine for BPU applications. Mine started slipping when I upped the boost. I replaced it with a stock clutch and all is well now.

just on the point of clutch i am at full bpu fitted a oem clutch kit, couple thousand miles on still fine however loud rattle knocking noise at idle when i push the clutch pedal in it goes, is the fly wheel on its way out, that was the only part to be reused

What did ur flywheel look like when you replaced ur clutch? is it a toyota standard clutch or aftermarket? Is there no advantage of having a performance clutch like the south bend or RPS over a standard one as long as it does not slip?

There is no 'performance' benefit from using an aftermarket clutch, the only reason not to use a stock clutch is if it cannot handle the power. The stock clutch is the smoothest, easiest to use and quietest option, aftermaket clutches can be heavy, grabby and noisy in comparison.

That sounds like release bearing? Was it adjusted differently to before - ie: no 'loose' section at the top of the clutch pedal travel before it starts to engage?

I've read that the standard clutch can handle up to 470bhp is this true?

Should I change my flywheel at the same time, I will be hiring a garage to do this job under the mechanic/owner supervision. I am worried that once i remove the clutch and inspect the flywheel I realise i need a new one and then my car would be taking up space on his only ramp.

Dude from AFR Tunning test drove my car he said that I wouln't need a flywheel just a clutch but I've done some miles since then. I just want to cover my ass and get this job done right first time, I've also read about changing the gearbox mounts at the same time? what about hard bushing for the gear linkages 'short shifter'? any opinions on this?

Do you know the cost for a new flywheel? do you know if the exedy standard clutch kit include the pilot bearings and though out bearings?

Thanks Nic in advance..!:D

Not sure about 470hp, but should be okay at BPU levels.

It really depends how much wear there is to the flywheel, only way of knowing is to inspect it, if you've been driving with it slipping then may well need changing. Here are the Toyota part numbers.

13450-0W011 Toyota Flywheel 6spd

31210-14170 Toyota Clutch Cover 6spd

31250-14190 Toyota Clutch Disc 6spd

90903-63001 Toyota Release Bearing 6spd

Your mechanic will be able to tell you if the gearbox mounts are worn. I personally wouldn't bother with a short shifter kit.

Not sure about your Exedy clutch question.

standard fly wheel was fine just some cleaning on it everything else oem replaced, this noise has only started to come into it, has been fine since installed 2k ago, was wondering is the high speed pulls after doing damage to some part of the clutch. as said soon as pedal is engaged its gone

Bump,

I am going to wait till you find out what that noise is before purchasing a clutch. :sly:

After everything (except the flywheel) was replaced, did the pedal feel different? Did it have any play at the top of the pedal travel before the clutch started engaging?
