Need4Speed
I'm looking to put some new cams in and HKS seem to be th popular choice. 264s or even 272s are my plan, does anybody out there have any comments on their performance?
Alex
264's give a good boost throughout the rev range. 272's can leave you a little flat at the bottom of the revrange and then peak higher than the 264's. The 272's are also less idle friendly
MONKEYmark
i have hks cams n gears 264in 264ex glad i got them, car seems to rev a lot better.idle is very slightly lumpy in a nice sort of way. i was told to go for 256 but they were all same price so thought i would go for the 264`s thought the 272`s were for the big single turbo cars.i did not want to loose the low end power neither, i am not keen on top speed runs. prefer midrange power. what other mods you done to your car
Guest Terry S
John, the 272 can cause coil bind.
Need4Speed
Thanks for the advice Terry, I don't think I'm planning a head rebuild just to change the valve-springs and had really settled on the 264s. Do the HKS gears have vernier adjustment or are they just pretty? I'm not into cosmetic engine components.
Guest Martin F
Yes, the HKS gears do have vernier adjustment.
Guest Terry S
Yes John they are vernier cam gear. Oddly enough, when my engine was tuned on the dyno we found that the best compromise between bhp & torque was the stock setting! So I have expensive cam gear set to stock:rolleyes:

Guest Terry S
Well seeing as they are lighter than stock as well it my bring his 1/4 time down even further!
Need4Speed
found that the best compromise between bhp & torque was the stock setting! C'est la vie Terry Thanks for the advice, I will progress with the mods.
