Matt H
I've been invited on a trip to the Nurburg Ring, but want to get some idea of cost before decide whether to go. Do people usually do it over 3 days? I.e day 1: travel there; day 2: ring; day 3: travel back? And how much would you look at setting aside for the trip (total cost - I can imagine it's quite pricey - especially as we'll be setting off from Manchester) Ta Matt

Or driving but hiring a Ring racecar? Or flying and hiring a Ring racecar?
SteveR
I've not read it in detail, but I couldn't see a rough cost. Download the excel sheet I made and attached to the thread, stick in your details, price pops out.
Scott
Using Steve's handy calculator it would cost the Wife and I £1800 to do it on the cheap
Gaz6002
Firstly, it's one word Nurburgring. Factor two tanks of petrol in - at least - to get you from Manchester to the 'Ring if you intend to enjoy the drive. The ferry from Dover to Calais usually costs around £70, but it depends when you book. Laps are quite expensive (22e), but the price goes down the more you buy. Accommodation is as expensive as you want it to be, we found a decent place for fourty-ish Euros a night. For one of our 4 or 5 day trips I'd be setting aside £500 to make sure I enjoy it but also your car will need to be 110% before you go. I'd advise at least new tyres, new brake pads and a full service. Four days is better IMO, if you can work it so you get two full days track action. Remember the track isn't open full-time to the public, so check the schedules before you go. Would also be wise to miss big race weekends, but the atmosphere is better then so up to you if you like busy or quiet(ish). The 'Ring is more of a theme park this year (or so I've heard) and it's a lot more 'touristy'. That means more clubs, bars and hotels

Might be a bit longer than that, How many miles is it from yours ? Inc ferry time it takes me about 14 hours to get from here to the wirral and thats about 750/800 miles and doing about 80 all the way give or take a few MPH haha

It cost me and the missis not much less than £2k to go for 5 days 2 years ago (just me driving in my Supe). That was the cost of everything (ferry, fuel from door to door, lap tickets, eating out, accomodation)
Supra_Sean
The ferry from Dover to Calais usually costs around £70, but it depends when you book. Dover-dunkirk (spelling) its cheaper, Its only about £35 return and its 30 miles less driving.

I heard that, but I also heard they're not so 'low car friendly'... however, we'll be looking at it all again for our Spa trip this year. SteveR
Dover-dunkirk (spelling) its cheaper, Its only about £35 return and its 30 miles less driving. ...and MUCH nicer ferries. The earlier you book and the less sociable the time of travel, the cheaper it is. I've paid just £19 return before.

Nah there is no problem there. Every time I've asked to stay on the lorry level (to avoid going up the ramps to the car deck) it has been fine, but my Supe doesn't catch on the ramps anyway, despite being about 1cm lowered all round. Matt H
Well according to Steve's sheet, it will cost me at least £1440 - Crikey. I'm off to the Bahamas instead!
jackso11
you can do it in a day. 10.5 hours there, 10 minutes on the track, 10.5 hours back, 3 hours sleep then back to work. Easy

At that price you might aswell buy el'cheapo flight out there and buy some old car to rag round the ring, then dump it and fly back.

I didn't go as far as the exchange rate or update the price per lap. I'd love to do it but that is the same money as a fortnight in Florida for us

I will go back, possibly this year, if not then I'm sure I will go back again next year.
Matt H
I can't see the appeal for that sort of money in comparrision to other trips you could have. Sure it's 'the nurburgring', but there's plenty of closed tracks close to home. 21 hours of driving there and back doesn't appeal either. Something I'd do if I was mega rich. Athough fitting it in as part of a mega road trip around the euro would be worth doing (more expensive though) - i.e. not the sole reason for driving to Germany - might as well make the most of that 10.5 drive there hey! Hoppy
I went 2 years ago.Cost me approx £450-£500 in petrol alone.Total cost including Eurotunnel, fuel, food, accommodation + Ring time came to around £1000 for 2 of us over 4 days.(Thursday - Sunday) Worth every penny IMO though. We had a great time and the Ring is awesome.Racked up about 18 laps in total Even got to hit the German bars + nightclubs a few times
