Should Liverpool Be In The Champion's League Next Season

As the title says, do you think we should be back in it next season? can they not let us in after that performance in the greatest european game EVER? the fans' and team's passion? won't Milan and Chelsea etc want us there to knock us out? Will next season's CL winner feel like winners if the holders aren't there to defend it?

I am one of the old school who thinks the current set up is a load of bollocks anyway. How the hell can it be called a "champions" league when the majority of the participants are not the champions of their relative leagues?

i actually agree with you mate! that's why i'm afraid of a lot of liverpool fans sayin we're the best team in Europe!! we're obviously not! BUT with the current set up, should we be in or not in?

Yes, I would always say that the holders should be in it.

Personally i dont think Liverpool should be in it tbh.

The recent format has always had the qualification determined by the position finished in your domestic league, and for Liverpool that just wasnt good enough. While i admit you have done fantastic in the tournament, and deserve to win after tonights performance (which was great!), you simply didnt play well enough in the Premiership this season to warrant being in it next year.

And im sure UEFA never planned for the winners not to finish in the non-qualification positions either when they devised the setup.

On Radio 5 they were saying that UEFA need the champions to play in a big exhibition match in Asia later this year. LFC aren't likely to agree to do this if UEFA don't let them defend their ECL title.

If that is true I reckon Liverpool are going to be OK. Maybe at Everton's cost though!

not quite true mate! it's up to the FA to nominate 4 teams, they can nominate whoever they want but obviously all FAs have said it'll be the top 4.

You might say that our Premier League form wasn;t good enough to warrant bein in the European Cup next season, but don't you think if we've gone out and started in August and won the thing that we deserve a chance to defend it?

i can imagine if Man U win it next year, how many Liverpool fans will be able to say that no one took the European Cup off us so it can't be a completely fulfilled triumph for you. It's like a boxer who retired/forced to give up the belt or something, how can the next champion claim to be the best when the holder was never eliminated from the competition

Because they wasnt even good enough to qualify for the next season ;)

This is an unbiased opinion by the way. Do you not admit you have played too crap in the league?

yeah we have been shite in the league. but in the champion's league we;ve been superb and it's being in the champion's league that is bein debated. it was neil ruddock who first brought up the point - how much will monaco, olympiakos, deportivo, leverkusen, juve, chelsea and milan want to knock liverpool out next year. personally if i was a member of a champs league winning team next year i would of wanted the current champions to have been competing and being knocked out

Liverpool have been poor this season. Beaten by Southampton FFS! And Burnley wasn't it?

I'm very happy though. My mate was saying the other day that it's gonna be the perfect footy season:

  • Pompey stayed up
  • Saints went down
  • Man Utd won nothing and finished in 3rd place for the 3rd time in 4 seasons
  • Liverpool would win the Champions League

(We like Arsenal and Pompey and hate Saints and Man Utd. We only want Chelsea and Liverpool to do well to irritate Man Utd fans)
