Got a problem with my mates scooby WRX, So can you do a paperclip test on it ?

We was having some fun and he poped a small pipe off the intercooler so we put it back on but now its running like a bag of shit, Seems like its running off 3c to me, Losts of tapping popping noise coming from the exhaust.

The engine light stays on then when you put your foot down there seems to be no power even under boot and the engine light flashes.

I think its missfiring.

Ideas ?

Take it to Subaru tomorrow :)

He is, I just wanted to see if you guys knew wether you could do a paperclip test or not.

Just my thoughts, if he was doing a good speed and the pipe popped of, these would run through my head

sparks(missfiring)? headgasket on its way out? exhaust/manifold gaskets?

Yeah i thought it would be sumat to do with the pulgs

if the engine lights flashing and its not boosting, turbos gone?

it happens all the way through the revs when you put your foot down not just when the turbo kicks in but no there is no real turbo kick tbh

Maybe he should join a subaru club?

Agreed, but he aint got the net like me so i thought i would ask you helpful guys ;)

On a better note he aint quicker than my n/a befor he had these problems lol :eyebrows:

Sorry - can't leave my post here and keep a clear conscience!

:taped:

Come again ?

With no boost n missfireing I would say the there a leak in the intake system between the maf and turbo, what pipe came off?

Is was a small rubber one and it had bits of oil dripping out of it, Couldnt tell you exact witch one cause i know fook all about Turbo's (never owned one)

Haha I can think of about 5 little rubber hoses that plug to the intake system, all will have a small anoint of oil residue, but with out knowing which one diognosing what gone wrong is near impossible sorry

one sec ill try get a pic for you.

In the absence of a definite answer, i would suggest Subaru :)

He is taking it there anyways, Was mainly for the paperclip test but no answer on that yet lol and just a heads up really. (+ i learn a bit aswell :p )

The paperclip test can't be used to get the error codes

Ok cheers, just have to wack it in the garage then.

Heres the pic, best i could do cause its getting dark:

It was right at the bottom tho where another little rubber pipe attatches on and looks like it goes into the block just under/next to the water bottle.

What sort of revs was the car doing when it came off?, because if you was high revs when it cam off the boost pressure would of gone through the roof at those breathers control the boost pressure, at a guess it have most likely blown the turbo

It most likely the turbo as the idle control valve are plumed after the turbo hence the crap idle, the other thing might be the maf has failed, if that failed at that sort of revs there a chance it could of lead to the pipe popping off due to sudden change etc, it typical scooby one thing could lead to another or something else can lead to the same, is he taking it to main dealer or dealer specialist

I'm going for the worst case, but sods law it might be simple like the pipe that poped off has not sealed properly when you put it bk on

When i put it back on i put some clamps on it so it didnt pop off again, Then again thinking about it we dont know how long that pipe as been on, Could be another problem and cause i was looking for sumat i seen the pipe off and just assumed that was the problem and it had poped off due to heavy revs etc.
