Scott
One for the audio guru's I think. Other than the RMS & Frequency range I am pretty much clueless about what makes a good speaker. I know the reasonable brands etc etc but just want to make sure I get the best I possibly can for my money. Do any of you guys have any of these speakers? Opinions? What about the Guru's, which ones are going to produce the best sound? Rainbow Focal Alpine I've always wanted the Alpine's but seeing the likes of Focal and Rainbow in the same price range is making me think otherwise. On the other side of the coin, they will be the bottom of the range Focal & Rainbow speakers. The real question, I guess, is if the almost top of the range Alpines are as good/better than the almost bottom of the range Focal/Rainbow. Cheers
AndrewOW
I have some Rainbow components, and they are superb IMO. Can take a huge amount of abuse, and sound great throughout the range. I don't think they are too expensive either.
supramkivcork
I have alpine type r's , to be honest I dont really think they are that good. A mate of mine had some rainbow stuff in his e36 m3 and they sounded fantastic. Not something that will shatter your eardrums but a very clean crisp sound. supramkivcork
http://www.rainbowincar.co.uk/amplifiers.php The guy who had the rainbow also had one of these amps Scott, not sure which one mate but the whole system sounded mint. I think the a lot of the guys on the BMW forums swear by them .

dr_jekyll
rainbow = awsome focal = awsome alpine , heavily model dependant , some are great some are sh1t
TTRickeh
Personally i'd go for the Rainbows or Focals. I have those Alpine ones and I'm not that impressed tbh, although to be fair it's just running off the H/U for now and I still have the stock tweeters connected so that wont help the sound. Abz
Scott I have the Focal components in my Supra. I would highly recommend them! The sound quality is very crisp & clear dispite them not being hooked up to an amp & running off a shabby old Pioneer system. Though I do find that they are not very bassy & don't work so well on bassy tracks. I currently don't have a sub & I am planning on getting one which I believe will make it a perfect partnership with the Focal's playing all the high notes/vocal. I have had Alpine Type R's speakers in previous cars & they are of a good quality & sound but would recommend the Focal's over them even though the Alpine's had a better low end bass. The rainbow's I could not comment on but hear they are very good.
dr_jekyll
personally ,i allways found myself going back to mtx audio. faultless
Scott
Ok then, the Alpines are out. Guess it is going to be a coin toss between the Focals and the Rainbow then. I have a decent sub and a set of 6x9's in the install which produce pleanty of mid, low range bass so I'm just looking for crisp and clear sound production. Thanks for that guys, really appreciate it.

It is really good for producing bass but I found it a little numb with the high/mid-high range stuff. Much like the Type-r I guess.
RobSheffield
Never tried the Rainbows (gay name) but my focals used to be great in the crisp and clear department.

Scott
Is matching RMS power between the front and rear important? The reason I ask is it appears that the Focal Components styling matches these coaxials yet the max RMS is different. The RMS from the components matches these which are a bit over what I want to spend if I'm honest, and I like them to match Edit: I didn't see Rainbow coaxials on that site, if I can't find suitable ones then I will be going with the Focals. I can't justify components in the back.
Scott
Right, feck it.
