Not Boosting Properly

I've noticed over the last couple of days that on the odd occasion when i plant my foot i only get like 4 psi on boost and it sounds like the 2nd turbo doesn't even come on line. If i realise the accelrator and plant it again it all works fine. It's like something is getting stuck/blocked somewhere. Anybody heard of this or have any ideas?? :(

The Boost Pressure tank is a pain to change!! It's at the back of the engine. An easier way is to get hold of the hoses/stick longer ones and stick them on a new tank and place the new tank on top of the spark plug cover (at the back) but it does look unsightly. Thor did mines

mine used to do this if i was doing more than 4,000 rpm and stamped on the accelerator the 2nd turbo didn't kick in - nightmare when overtaking. However since i upped the boost to 1 bar its fine.

I know this helps you no way whatsoever but could be connected and if someone had the same problem but fixed it then it could help.

i'm dribbling now, its been a long day at work so i'm just going to shut up....

I had this problem once, checked the hoses several times before finding the leak. You can check the pressure from the pressure tank if you tee into the pipe that goes *to* the VSV on the top/right/back of the engine and connect a boost gauge to the tee.

Mine turned out to be the pipe between the exhaust gas control valve and its associated VSV. IanC put together a great thread relating to this sort of problem.

Did you change any other pipework Steve? What did you install??

the only pipes i changes were the 2 small ones at the front bottom left hand side as you look at the engine from the front of the car, when i put the MBC in.

seeing as your engine bay is so clean and blinging its got to be easy finding any split/damaged pipes :D

James,

Thor had a secondhand boost tank - £80. I think a new one is £120+

About half hour labour for someone who knows what they're doing.

I'm sure some of the people here will have spare ones as you don't need the Boost pressure tank when you go single.

This is the downside of the 'troublesome sequential system'!!

Cheers,

Ro
