tbourner
Our company just installed Sophos and it's screwed up all the IE8 users. I use Chrome for some things and IE for others. I do think it's a bit silly that MS were forced to do the choice thing though, just because most people with home PCs can't see beyond MS and don't actually know that anything else exists, that's not MSs fault the choices are all out there! stevie_b
Try being a developer... it's not just a subtle compatibility test. http://hijinksensue.com/comics/2008-03-31-matrix-browsers.jpg I know what you mean, but there's 2 different issues here: One issue is the bundling of IE with Windows in the first place. This was probably more of an issue in the height of the "browser wars" a few years ago than it is now. Nowadays non-techie end users are more aware of the alternatives out there (e.g. Firefox, Opera etc), and even though IE is still (AFAIK) embedded into the Windows OS, Windows works well with a third-party browser as the default and IE just left dormant on the system. Should MS be bundling I with Windows? Maybe, maybe not, but Matt H raises a valid point about it. You can hardly blame MS for wanting to do it. The other issue is standards compliance, and for me (and you it seems) this is the biggie. Non-compliance is the bain of all web developers. Incidentally if IE adhered to the standards properly, less people would want to change to Firefox etc.
RedM
*cough* Apple stole the webkit engine, and put a pretty front end on it. Well, duh, that's obviously what I would have written if I had been brave enough to imply that Apple had stolen something in a week that has probably made Steve Jobs very angry. I hear ol' Jobsie has a bit of a temper.
Gaz6002
Well in my humble experiences, Firefox is an unstable, unreliable bag-o'-shite. I deleted it on all of my machines. I'm using Chrome now which is faster, but still not perfect.

Opera 10.5 is my favourite. Now that is fast and stable.

Chrome seems to have the platform I need for browsing, but without the little quirks I learnt to love with FF.
Attero
Chrome technically is faster than Firefox and I use it on the odd occasion although Firefox is my main browser. It's been flawless for me.

In my experience Chrome is very slow when loading sites such as Engadget or Gizmodo. It may be something to do with certain ads although using an adblocker doesn't help.
