RobSheffield
Where does the sound come from when you arm/lock it?
stevie_b
As an aside, quite often insurers will want to see proof of installation of an alarm (or proof of it working properly, obtainable from an alarm specialist), and it might not be sufficient to say "It's got such-and-such alarm fitted". If that's the case then you'll probably need to take it to an alarm specialist to get the certificate. This might apply to Cat1 alarms only. If it's not cat 1 then I doubt whether the insurer will worry about proof of fitting.
DannoSupra
Isnt there a make on the key fob? My alarm was a scorpion factory fitted (iirc) module under the driver's seat and siren, ohh god i cant remember... by the charcoal canister i think, or ABS Unit (if iftted). top right hand engine bay as you look at the engine from the front of the vehicle

purplewitch
£10 bargain.. cost me £50 to get a certificate of installation for a Cat1 on one of my cars ... it's a pain but it's good insurers insist on Cat 1 and proof .. the more Supras get stolen, the harder it is for all of us to get insurance on them
stevie_b
I agree, £10=bargain, especially as it's a one-off. It's just part of the cost of owning these cars. When I first bought mine, it didn't come with a certificate of installation. I took it to a local specialist... who demonstrated to me that the alarm didn't work very well (e.g. wouldn't go off if the passenger door was opened!). I ended up just getting a new alarm system installed. Edited April 22, 2010 by stevie_b (see edit history)

jackso11
won't they look at it and say 'thats cat 2' then you wasted £10 and have to pay more insurance. If I were you i would get a cheap cat 1 alarm. Alarms are not worth anything anyway, when they go off nobody cares or takes any notice. stevie_b
Is your meta alarm not cat2 then? If you get a new alarm, go for a cat1: most insurers wouldn't touch you without one fitted.
