Plagiarised from some ol' course work material I read many years ago.

Re-Plated Cylinder Bore

Pros

*Small advantage in heat transfer

*Slightly better wear factor

*Somewhat lower co-efficient of friction

*Less weight

Cons

*Costs slightly more

*Can’t be bored when damage occurs

*More fragile than steel sleeves.

*Can flake and peel

Iron Sleeved Cylinder Bore

Pros

*Costs less

*Boreable for future over sizes

*Honeable to keep bore true and proper ring seal

*Can be worked with common tools

*Can be replaced when needed

Cons

*Slightly slower heat transfer

I work on a lot of coated bore engines. It's a minefield and you need to match piston and ring material to the bore type or DISASTER!! There are several UK specialists who can advise, try here for a start, in fact doesn't a forum member work for Capricorn?

company in america does it and have done an r35 gtr already..

they build race engines.

i think i will send them my block and they hone match everything.

cheers

Personaly, I would try to keep any sort of machining/specialised work UK based, purely from a back up perspective. Outsourcing across the pond can turn into a logistical nightmare should the worse happen again.

tbh this guy has done one and owns a race tuning shop.. (and has built a vr38)

the guy in question was the one who raced his and won some victory event..

I am up for a challenge :) I love spending customers money on interesting projects. Seriously though, do NOT underestimate the time, potential disasters and cost of taking something like this on Jurgen. Others have said it, why not put a stock engine back in and let other poor saps do the development to make these things handle more power? You know it makes sense :)

Well there's an opportunity to innovate if ever I heard one.

Speaking of development, has Will released anymore testing data on his NiSil motor? I notice he is on his 2nd/3rd version of it now.

has he had 2 3 engines already failed ?

or do you mean he has done 3 of them..

cwilson choice sounds good but will is going to sponsor me.. am not sure chris will want to do that.;)

Dunno bud, that's why I'm asking. I spotted the following over on NAGTROC, but can't find any data on how it's progressing i.e longevity tests. If you're going to be somebody's guinea pig, you might as well do it yourself in conjunction/sponsorship with a UK company and develop some proprietary products from it.

I thought you had already rebuilt your motor and were breaking it in months ago?

Have changed the setup a couple times.

Now on version 3 of the motor.

Problem is I have too many ideas. :)

Need to stop development long enough to put together a package and offer it for sale.
