Digsy
First riding lesson in nearly four months at 2:30 today! Really looking forward to it. I've deliberately booked a strict instructor / difficult horse combination. Hopefully I can remember how the steering and brakes work
stevie_b
I didn't know you did that: you're a dark horse! How did you first get into it?
Digsy
Through my girlfriend. She used to ride in her teens / twenties and was always going on about how much she'd like to get back into it so I got her a refresher lesson as a valentine's present a couple of years back. Two month's later (and after a lot of initial resistance from me) she roped me in too. She's now got a horse share that I occaisionally help out with (mucking out etc), and I ride once a week at a school which costs me a small fortune but will have to do until I either have enough spare time to get a share of my own or that big lottery win comes along and I can buy one of my own Its loads of fun (even though I'm pretty mediocre at it). No idea why I didn't try it sooner. Probably something to do with the trousers.
AlexM
Have fun Digsy. I've been wanting to get back on a horse for a while, didn't know 'horse sharing' was a done thing - I'll ask the locals!
supra dan
Hopefully I can remember how the steering and brakes work can you drift a horse?
Thorin
My wife has riding lessons every week and is just starting jumping. Next step will be a horse share no doubt!
Digsy
Have fun Digsy. I've been wanting to get back on a horse for a while, didn't know 'horse sharing' was a done thing - I'll ask the locals! If you've got a local saddlery they'll probably know of all the nearby horses up for share. In the current financial climate a lot of people are looking for help with the costs of keeping a horse in return for a share of the riding. Just make sure you don't get lumbered with doing all the chores and never get to ride! can you drift a horse? You can, actually. Its called "renvers" and its a fairly advanced dressage move. Anyways, I got straight back into it on Friday and my instructor said it looked like I hadn't been away for too long - but it bloody felt like it! All the riding parts of my body have gone wobbly plus I've gained nearly a stone in weight. Also my stamina has gone up the spout so I need to get doing some excercise again as soon as. At least I managed not to face plant or anything embarrasing like that, even though the little bugger decided to spook at a some poles / a shadow / some thin air every five minutes while we were warming up.
