Steve
I like how he tried to steer the car away from the barrier even though he has no front wheels.

TLicense
I'm not quite sure as a driver what you do in that instance! A bit like when Webber took a flight at Le-Mans. At what point would he have taken his foot of the brakes? When he was looking out of the window at sky or ground?
pistonbroke
WTF happened there. I await CW's theory on the failure.
TLicense
Apparently it was an upright failure... a simultaneous upright failure.

SteveR
Incredible. Apparently it was an upright failure... a simultaneous upright failure. How does that happen then??
tbourner
How does that happen then?? Probably from slamming your brakes on at 200mph?
SteveR
Probably from slamming your brakes on at 200mph? Bit of a rubbish racing car if it can't handle that. It's not as if they weigh much!

Wez
How does that happen then?? I am guessing that both uprights would be 100% identical, we are not talking production car tolerances here, there for both likely to fail in the same way. With a fair weight of down force plus the additional stress of braking hard for a corner it look like they both gave way in the same way. I guess its a balance between strength, longevity and weight and they got it wrong
TLicense
Incredible. How does that happen then?? Beyond being poorly designed? Apparently one failed, which meant the load on the other increased until it then failed. They've supposedly decided not to use these "experimental" uprights for the rest of the weekend and have gone back to an old version.
SupraStar 3000
what happened to the wheel tethers? If that had been race day people in the stands could have been killed.
Thorin
what happened to the wheel tethers? They're attached to the uprights that snapped presumably.
