Adam_SG Posted December 5, 2002 Author Share Posted December 5, 2002 I've been doing a little research into the 15w50 oil, and i have found a lot of people actually use this oil as it protects better at high temperatures, although it takes a little longer to warm up. THOR Racing Posted February 6, 2003 Share Posted February 6, 2003 I use 10W30 Valvoline Synpower Fully Synthetic oil. http://www.valvoline.com/pages/products/product_detail.asp?Product=19 Had no end of oil burn with 0W40 Mobil 1 and as soon as I went to Vavoline I get about 1lt used every 5-6K miles. i.e. way before I change the oil anyway normally (3-4K) It's also a hell of a lot cheaper than Mobil1 I got a job lot from TorqueIC but I think Leon does it as well now, but in big drums. Nathan Posted February 6, 2003 Share Posted February 6, 2003 My 2p..... I personally consider ANY fully synthetic oil to be of a high enough quality for road cars. As regards to grade, a 5W, 10W or even 15W will be fine. FWIW, we use Valvoline Synpower 5W/50 mainly because it is a high grade oil, of the right viscosity, and is cheap(er) to boot. I like Mobil 1, as I do all of the lesser known types such as Silkolene, but Synpower offers all you need for a high quality road oil. Mobil 1 is overpriced IMO, probably to fund the horrendous advertising costs and to subsidise F1 racing by sticking it's logo all over the place.
