Adam_SG
I was wondering why nobody uses Mobil 1 oil? 15w 50. Cheers Adam.
Alex
15W is a bit thick. 10W is about as thick as you want your oil to be. Alot use 5w50 because its thin and tough. 0w is a bit too thin especially on older/higher mileage cars.
Doughie
Only Mobil 1 in my local shop is 0W 40. 0W is too thin and can leak past some seals so people tend to go for 10W30 or 10W40 or so.
Adam_SG
I've been doing a little research into the 15w50 oil, and i have found a lot of people actually use this oil as it protects better at high temperatures, although it takes a little longer to warm up. A lot of skyline and scoob owners are using it and with good results, your feelings on this would be apreciated. Ad.
RICHARDA
I'd like to know if there is anything negative using this oil in the supe as its what I am currently using.
Adam_SG
Rich, I have just done a full oil change with Mobil 1 15w50 as i have been told by a lot of people how good it is. Just remember to warm it up nicely Ad.
Gaz Walker
Suppose its decent stuff, too thick I would say. The two oils the Skyline boys love is Castrol RS 10w60 and Silkolene Pro 10w50 Gaz.
Need4Speed
I've always used Mobil 1 in racing engines, it doesn't seen to care how hot it gets. Is the 15W50 the "Motorsport" type favoured by TVR?

Bobbeh
Are both the Mobil 10w40 and the 15w50 both fully snythetic oils? Ie if its had the 10w40 in the past, it wont bitch if I start using 15w50. NB. Car has still just less than 50k miles currently.
THOR Racing
I use 10W30 Valvoline Synpower Fully Synthetic oil. http://www.valvoline.com/pages/products/product_detail.asp?Product=19 Had no end of oil burn with 0W40 Mobil 1 and as soon as I went to Vavoline I get about 1lt used every 5-6K miles. i.e. way before I change the oil anyway normally (3-4K) It's also a hell of a lot cheaper than Mobil1 I got a job lot from TorqueIC but I think Leon does it as well now, but in big drums. B3any
iS 0-50W to pissy then..... will it cause me any problems?
Nathan
My 2p..... I personally consider ANY fully synthetic oil to be of a high enough quality for road cars. As regards to grade, a 5W, 10W or even 15W will be fine. FWIW, we use Valvoline Synpower 5W/50 mainly because it is a high grade oil, of the right viscosity, and is cheap(er) to boot. I like Mobil 1, as I do all of the lesser known types such as Silkolene, but Synpower offers all you need for a high quality road oil. Mobil 1 is overpriced IMO, probably to fund the horrendous advertising costs and to subsidise F1 racing by sticking it's logo all over the place.
