Rob
Ok, having cleared my mouse nest and replaced the two chewed HT leads (NA Supra), now the car won't start. The first few times of ignition, I could hear the whirr of the starter turning the engine, followed by a series of fast, loud clicks. Subsequently, the starter no longer turns and I just get the clicking. I've had a good look around the bay and can't see anything else chewed up, like the leads to the injectors. There is no smell of petrol at all, yet the tank is 3/4 full. There are no fault codes showing, in fact the yellow engine light doesn't even flash, its just "off" when I short across the E1, TE1 terminals. All electrics (windows, wipers etc) are fine and the battery is brand new. Any ideas? My first thought is something chewed under the car near the fuel pump. Should I be able to hear anything from near the tank with the ignition on?
Supra_Sean
If Its clicking then doesnt that mean the battery is dead (i know its new) or the starter motor might be stuck maybe. hammer ? Just a guess
Rob
Can't think that the battery would have died, its only sat there for three weeks idle.
Porky1978
Give it a tap with a knocking stick and see what happens. Failing that i would go with the battery.
Suprab1
Yeah it sounds like dead battery/starter solenoid. Also check that the battery terminals are tight & it has a good earth.
stevie_b
I suspect the starter motor contacts. Tap with a rubber mallet to get you out of trouble, replace the contacts as a more permanent fix if the problem persists.

Rob
the mice came back to finish the job! you shouldn't have fcukd with them. I killed his family man, he's up for revenge. I'm charging the battery now. Starter contacts were re-newed a couple of years ago so I'm ruling them out.
David P
If OEM, you should check inside the air box, as this is a favourite place for them to build an under bonnet nest. There is even an outside chance the engine could be hydraulically locked with squidged mice. Rob
Duuhh! It twas the battery after all that, charged it and it now runs "micely." Yes? yes? You see what I did there. Oddly the central locking now locks, but does not unlock. Edited April 14, 2010 by Rob (see edit history)
