Would you take an R35 over a 997 Turbo?

Both great cars, but the ever increasing stories of failures on stock GTR's has got me questioning my decision on ordering one. Bad news is always prevalent on forums, but there doesn't seem to be a week go by where someone hasn't lunched a gearbox or an engine on the Nissan. I'm sure they aren't as fragile as some of the forums are making out, even if they do cost a fortune to maintain, but am I nuts for wanting to chop in the Beetle for a GTR? What do you guys think.

No....stick with the 997

Steely - As Gaz has mentioned, I have the 997 already, it's whether to change to a GTR. (thanks Gaz)

MarkR - Snap. I know of a 997 that might be coming up for sale soon ;) Did you come to the same conclusion with regards cost of maintenance on a GTR?

at least there new models change. instead of looking the same each time they upgrade.

I've never understood this idea, all cars change but stay similar in basic shape.

Old Porsche 911.

New Porsche 911.

Very similar in progress to:

Old Nissan GTR.

New Nissan GTR.

Both have a similar bonnet-roof-boot line, but newer models have more vents and a wider stance etc. I see just as much progression in design in both!

If it had to be one of the two options given, it'd be the 997.

But for now, I'll stick with my Corvette, thanks.

Simply engineered, dirt cheap to run/service, bulletproof motor, rare in the UK and a hoot to drive.

All boxes ticked for me thanks!

Thanks guys - but I won't recommend you buy one. Total cr@p really - you wouldn't like it!

(Remember I said I like it being rare in the UK....;) )

And there I was just about to pop down the road and have a look at a yellow C6 Tip you've had your eye on. :D

Yup, Everything looked far too pricey to justify especially seeing as the badge was a Nissan. Having said that though, my porker is cheaper to run than my Supra was. Mainly because I'm not modding it to death as it's perfect just the way it is :)

It does seem that Nissan forgot to benchmark running costs against the Porsche when they were designing the GTR. I'm not surprised at the P car being cheaper to run against the Supra, those pesky Supra's beg to be toyed with. You'd need to re-mortgage your house to mod the Porsche.

The Porsche modding is not as bad as you'd think. Look at the L4 package. 17k US is not bad for a 700HP Turbo monster :D
