Vitara 94(L) Lack of power when driving

So the Gf has a wee Vitara thats she's using due to her selling the Pug 206cc.

Now when driving the car, it seems to be slow to build up speed. It takes for ever, once it gets up to say 70 or any speed the car then seems to lose power, and the revs drops slowly. Dropping a gear sends the Revs up highm but then straight away the revs start to drop. Then the car is not drivable. But will idle no problem.

When pulling away is just dont wana know??

Any idea guys??

Check fuel filter first.

Do they not still run a distributor with points etc or is it electronic ignition? Does it have a cat? Does it sound throaty? Timing issue I think?

Might need to go back to basics, and check points gap, dwell angle etc, but think having a cat would mean its more than likely electronic. check rotor arm etc though and see if you can check / adjust timing if needed with a timing light etc.

Of course check fuel filters etc, but don't they have the cheapie inline clear filter in the pipe?

I have the same problems with the N reg 2.0L V6 Vitara that I have. Runs rich so im 'guessing' its the lambda sensors with mine, check yours to see if it runs rich when warm. Unlike the supra the suzukis lose power when running rich IMO. However because I've just shelled out on new suspension for the supra the vitara can wait.

Please update this thread if you find what the problem is as its probably going to be the same fix necessary for mine.
