Tourniquet
Anyone seen this yet ? I got sooo excited when I heard this was coming. I absolutely adore Band Of Brothers, it's probably my favourite series of all time so when I found out it's the same people I thought it couldn't fail. So far I've watched the first two as that's all that's been on but I think it's great so far. It's probably going to take time to get a feel for the characters and as I've seen BoB so often I have an affection for Easy company which is going to take some doing to beat but to be fair to The Pacific it was like that at the start for BoB. I don't know much about the war from that side of it, Im more clued up on Europe but Im sure it will do the vets proud. What do you lot think of it ? nevins
Watched the 1st 2 episodes today and enjoyed it. Only thing that I found, is that at the start it was pretty boring until when the landed on the beach.
jimbo482
Yes I'm following this, it's sad to see what they went through but what an accomplishment!
dani_r
I've seen the first 2 episodes and have the other 2 waiting to be watched! Liking it so far, but it is a bit slow at the beginning! Saying that, there has to be a bit of back-story I suppose.
RedM
Ah! War from the days when you could shoot cameramen and not have it turn up on Youtube.
Scoboblio
I'd love to see this, but don't have sky movies. TBH it annoys me that they expect me to pay extra for movie channels I don't want, to watch what is basically a TV series that IMO they should be showing on sky 1. I'm sure it'll show up on the 'normal' sky channels eventually, glad to hear it's good.
SupraStar 3000
Like Tourniquet, I'm a massive BOB fan. absolutely loved the tv series and have watched it countless times from the boxset. Looking forward to seeing this but can't afford the new sky channel so I'll wait for it to become available in the shops or normal TV. If you haven't seen it before, I strongly recommend "The Thin Red Line (1998)"
Tourniquet
Haven't seen that mate, I'll look it up. I've cancelled a load of my Sky stuff to bring my bill down but have had to keep my movies package at £17 a month just so I can have the channel The Pacific is shown on which annoyingly happens to be a free channel - you just can't have it without the poxy package !!!! I think when it comes out it'll be an £80 jobby like BoB was but I'll deffinietly get it at some point. BoB was made even more spectacular for me with the gorgeous box set and all the cool extras so Im hoping this will follow suit. I agree it's a bit slow at the very start but as Dani says it does need a backing story. To me the cast of BoB were amazing and I've followed their other bits since - Damien Lewis' (Winters) series 'Life' is a new fave too and James Madio (Peconte) is even my budski on face-ache...n Dale Dye too lmao. I know, Im a geek but so what...I drive a Supra so that makes up for it :-)
SupraStar 3000
The Thin Red Line is my all time favorite film. You must watch it. Not as action packed as 'Saving Private Ryan' or as hardcore as many other films but the atmosphere, cinematography, story and music is just spot on. TooColdToDrive
Watched all 4 episodes so far - I feel the opposite of a few of the above guys though - it's too fast for me. I enjoyed band of brothers in that it had the introductory episode, where they went through boot camp, and you got to meet everyone. Here, 15 minutes into the first episode, they're already hitting the beach. Over all, it's good, but no Band of Brothers - might be because I find the European war more interesting than watching the battalion crawl through a jungle for an hour. j_jza80
Watched the first two episodes the other night and thought they were really good I've not seen BoB before, i'm going to tread myself to the DVDs when 'The Pacific' is over.
The Raven
Never seen band of brothers. Is it worth picking up? Im quite enjoying this, adding the old vets snaps you back to the fact its based on truth.

I agree though, a cheap shot from SKY !
Thorin
Ah! War from the days when you could shoot cameramen and not have it turn up on Youtube. *snigger* I saw a few of BoB but never finished watching it. Will have to download it along with The Pacific. Digsy
BoB was the first thing I watched when I got my big telly and surround system. Pacific looks interesting but I'll wait for the DVDs to come out. Shame about hearing that the storyline puts them on the beach in eposide 1, but I guess the whole "boot camp" thing has been done already in BoB. Maybe that's how it was in real life? I recall taht in the closing episodes of BoB it was mentioned that the war was still going on in the Pacific, so they would probably be sent there shortly. Perhaps they quickly threw regiments together using veterans of the European campaign? Anyway, I'm looking forward to seing this one day. I believe it's because the show's creators stipulated it should be broadcast with no adverts.

I recall Nix saying he has to follow Winters as he jumps on Japan as he doesn't know where it is lmao

Perhaps they quickly threw regiments together using veterans of the European campaign? I don't know about the Americans, but we definitely sent troops from Europe to the Far East after VE day. My Dad was transferred to the Paras (6th Airborne) and put on a troopship heading for Burma, although the Japanese surrendered when they were in the Mediterranean so the ship was diverted to Palestine. I'll wait until I can watch it for free thanks - Sky get enough a month out of me already! Another mini series worth looking out for is 'Generation Kill' - US Marine Recce in the Gulf War as recorded by an embedded reporter. At least one of the marines plays 'himself' in it. Tourniquet
Yeah Im watching this as the moment. The gay porn star italian or whatever they call him is the real marine. It's good but to me just shows how America have all the gear and no idea. Imagine what it would be like if the British army had their budget - we would literally rule the world lol
Tourniquet
Ooh forgot to say, my favourite apart from Band Of Brothers is a series called Over There. This was awesome and there's been internet talk of getting them to pick it back up after it got cancelled. I think it was dropped as the Iraq problem was on going at the time and thought to be too soon or something. I deffinitely reccomend this, everything's great even down to the soundtrack song :-)
