ozz
Hi All, Does anyone know of a good website to look for property in Southern France? akin to France's equivalent of Rightmove etc? Need help to find a property on the french/swiss border! But not sure where to be looking. Help! Its too many years since I looked at French property to help but what killed it for us was the notaires fees - something like 10% tax on any purchase so check for it. Did you get the job then? Are you relocating? I've turned down switzerland, I would be tempted to live in Austria however, its much nicer (the bits I've seen). The cost of living though is very high, property is not far off London level and vehicles are very expensive.

The total charges payable for the purchase of an existing older property are between 7% and 10% of the purchase price. In the case of a new property, the charges are around 3.5%, although, in this case, VAT on the purchase price is also payable. Although they are often referred to as ‘notaire fees’ (frais de notaire), in fact the actual fee is only about 1%! The rest comprises registration taxes and disbursements. Ouch. Got some updates, but I'll put it in the thread I've got in the members section. Could really do with some websites in france though!
