Hi guys im fitting a 1JZ into my n/a and have took the decats off the soarer to find there is no restrictor ring fitted, now i realise the turbo's are smaller then j-spec supra's but id have thought it would still require a 1 bar ring fitted, soarer guys or mk3 owners might be able to help.

the reason i heard a restrictor ring is required is to prevent a boost spike that will cause the seals to go on the turbos. im dropping the same engine in a 200sx and will just be using the cat as a restriction, hopefully thatll be enough.

The exhaust being removed is enough to pop the seals, once that restriction is gone the amount of shaft play in tired bearings causes the seals to go, its not really boost related.

oh right, so how would removing the exhaust make the seals go? I will be running a standard downpipe and y-pipe so do you think that would be ok or do you think i will need to leave the cat in for restriction?

i dunno if it changes anything but my downpipe will also be at the standard diameter for about 1-2 feet more than standard as i have to drop it across to the other side of the car to the standard position in my nissan.
