ClaireRZ-S
Right lads i need help . I think my car is sick . Basically when im driving it on it seems ok until im in about 6th gear doing 90km and then up to about 110, 120 the revs go down for a second and then back up like the clutch is slipping then i can hear this rubbing noise. Its coming from the left and it seems like the car isnt gripping the road but i dont seem to have this problem until im in 6th gear. Please help
Purity14
Do the revs go down then up, or do they go up first then down. Id say that was an important question.
ClaireRZ-S
they go up then down but only the once at that speed in 6th gear .
dr_jekyll
sounds like the begining of a dieing clutch, it may only happen in 6th because thats when it is holding the most load, if it is the clutch it will get progressively worse and start to happen in lower gears. ClaireRZ-S
awww no well that clutch didnt last very long and the car was off the road for 4 months
Purity14
If you try setting off in 2/3rd gear, do you get any clutch slip? Does it happen at that speed with the throttle gently open? .. or if you sat at that speed whacking your foot down on the fast pedal for a second or so does it occour each time? dr_jekyll
awww no well that clutch didnt last very long and the car was off the road for 4 months may not be , but thas how it sounds to me
ClaireRZ-S
it doesnt happen on low gears at all. If your kinda trying to build up speed in 6th gear say you feel it easily but if your going hard in 5th then change u dont notice it. yeah foot to the floor at that speed and you feel it happens nearly every time in 6th
Purity14
Wow, does sound like clutch slip though...
dr_jekyll
so if you keep your foot in it in 6th dose it keep slipping ? or do you have to lift for the revs to return to normal>
ClaireRZ-S
its only between 90km and 120 130 and after that its grand
dr_jekyll
so if you keep your foot down it will regain grip itself once you pass 130k?
Purity14
Are you sure the revs go UP then DOWN. Are you 100% sure its not the other way around?
ClaireRZ-S
yeah ok i will double check tomorrow but im pretty sure it could be the other way around

Suprab1
Are you sure the revs go UP then DOWN. Are you 100% sure its not the other way around? If your clutch slips then the engine will rev up until the clutch stops slipping at which point the revs will settle back.
ClaireRZ-S
i really hope its not the clutch
dr_jekyll
what clutch do you have ?
Purity14
If your clutch slips then the engine will rev up until the clutch stops slipping at which point the revs will settle back. Yes, but if it isnt slipping other gears at WOT then it sounds strange!
nigelboyne
claire how are your rear tires could be wheel spin maybe
Abz
How old is your clutch Claire? And what sort of mileage did you do on the clutch. An most importantly did you have the clutch replaced yourself? Or previous owner?
dr_jekyll
claire how are your rear tires could be wheel spin maybe in 6th but not in lower gears? if its the biggining of the end for the clutch it will start in 6th, (max load) and as it get worse come into 5th on wot, then 4 th ect
Suprab1
Yes, but if it isnt slipping other gears at WOT then it sounds strange! Yeah but as said before there is a higher load in 6th. Also if the car was getting WOT then it would be doing alot more than 130kph when it was in 6th. Claire put the car in 3rd or 4th hold the revs about 4000rpm then slam the foot down & listing for the revs to rise faster than the car moves if that makes sense. Also i would recommend doing that on a dry road.
nigelboyne
in 6th but not in lower gears? if its the biggining of the end for the clutch it will start in 6th, (max load) and as it get worse come into 5th on wot, then 4 th ect boost is at its highest in 5th and 6th and at a low speed 60mph maybe it is the tires slipping plus its damp out at the moment. does sound like a clutch issue
dr_jekyll
if it was the tyres im sure it would happen in the lower gears. the slightly less boost would be over compenstaed by the lower ratios and in turn less load
