They are rot boxes, check carefully for rust. Check for accident damage, check what boost it's running, anything over 1 bar on stock turbos is asking for serious trouble. Check the clutch doesn't slip, check that all the electrics work. Check engine oil pressure hot and cold, running and at idle. Should have had a cam belt by now, or it's due one. They aren't anything like as bullet proof as a MKIV, but that's not to say a good one isn't a nice car. There are plenty of dogs around though! It needs to be looked at on a ramp.

That is advice from a guy who knows what his talking about.

Worth checking if the Skyline forum has a buyer guide like we have.

Generally as far as I know they are great cars but make sure it is looked after and not owned by a Chav who thrashes it around everywhere and skimps on parts/servicing.

Any links to the advert?

I don't have a buying guide but there's plenty of useful info here:

Make sure it's running standard boost. Mine had only done 30k when I bought it and one of the turbos let go after a mild boost up and wrecked my engine.

I am not saying they are all rusty, far from it, but the 34 definitely has a greater propensity for rapid corrosion than earlier models. Nick has a lovely R34 that he's had modded in a very sensible, all embracing manner. Just to add that on the RB26DETT engines a turbo failure often takes a lot of the engine with it as they have an uncanny ability to swallow turbine parts back into the combustion chambers, and damage id often spectacular and very expensive. Stock turbos need treating with great respect.
