Dnk
Do you just drop the rear subframe James, or both? (and why? ) No offence to James but i dont see why you'd do all that extra work to change the lower arms, theres no access issues and i didnt do this when i changed mine. Heres a pic of the o/s/f lower arm from underneath, i dont have a great pic of the rear but thats even easier as its only got the one adjuster to get off. Heres the best pic ive got of the rear but it doesnt show where the adjuster is as thats just out of shot Edited March 31, 2010 by Dnk (see edit history)
Homer
may sound a little stupid but ive lost all faith in the motor industy and being bent over! After your experience I can understand why BTW, I have loads of (good) suspension bolts and camber adjusters if you need some. Free of course. dude
how the hell can any one justify charging that kind of money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rental on building Business rates Trade policy (£3-10K) Technicians (£20-30 an hour) Equipment (my bill per week with snap on and Mac is over £100) a laser liner can be over £30K!!! Even a cheap one is gonna be £3-4K. It goes on and on but compared to plumbers, locksmiths etc who come to you and work from a van I would say thats a bargain. L33
So because u get ripped off by snap on you have to pass the buck to us halfords all the way I was just about to say 20-30 a hour was a rip off because I'm a electrician and my hourly rate is in the 12s but then I remembered my company prices a electrician out for about 35 a hour

Halfords can prob also do all your servicing etc.

L33
Lmao halfords FTW only kidding mate, I only use the best tools with my work And all the sparks round here unless self employed are on 12.45 ph as its the national JIB rate Rite well I have a bit of good and bad news I need some advice on... Good news- they have managed to do the allignment and because they quoted 200 yesterday and how much time it should of took there sticking to it Bad news- apparently one of the battery packs on there allignment thing lost power and won't recharge but they said the results were right but they can't do me a print off? But if I go back in a month they will retest and give me a print out? Also my mate seen 2 guys out driving my car so rang me concerned! I have been informed you do not need a road test with lazer allignment and only one qualified mechanic should be there or one and a apprentice? Well I rang them to ask why to the above as I was never asked if they could road test it or the start up proceedure/cold start/warm up/shutting down?! There reply was there was 2 guys as 2 people was working on it and they took it round the block as they had done work to the suspension and wanted to make sure its ok and the steering wheel was straight or pull to the left? Any advice?

Any advice? Any reason why it wouldn't pull to the right, just the left? Personally, if i've done laser alignment I tend to go give the car a quick run up the road to check it's straight. I've had quite a few were the graphs are all bang on but the car still pulls to one side. But.... if someone were to do my supra then i'd be worried too.. There is no need for two of them though, sounds like they were seeing what your car was really like!
L33
I'm even more annoyed my defi control box has packed up because I could of seen how they drove it with the peak readings
Dnk
Good news on them sticking to the price but i dont see why 2 mechanics need to rd test your car to see if it pulls left or right or if the steering wheel is straight. Sounds very much like a little joyride to me. When i had mine done Chris at Center Gravity took it for a test drive but with me in the passenger seat, we probably did 5 miles on differant cambered rds to make sure the car behaved how it should and not just round the block lol I then drove it with him in the passenger seat to relay the input i thought i was getting and was very happy with the car, infact 100% happy Edited April 1, 2010 by Dnk (see edit history)
L33
Sounded like a joy ride to me too!! This is why I have no faith in garages! Constantly getting sh!t endless trouble and just being taken for a mug!

Your going to the wrong garages, been there and done that, now i use my local village garage for most of my spanner work and never had a problem with any jobs they've done and they have done plenty on my car, i also only pay £30 per hour most of this you must go to a specialist is crap in my opinion and all you really need is good honest mechanic for most jobs. L33
Its finding one!! I used a garage round here who call them self a performance garage that to big modified jobs! And every thing they done I had to take back as they forgot suff and made problems and then my car blew up 2 days after the last job they done fitting polished cam covers and intake manifold so I never used them again!! Then I used a garage almost 2 hours from me as they were a trusted trader on here but since my car has been back I've had problems and head akes again and having to put there bodge right!! So I thought right allignment I want stress free so I'll go main dealer! FAIL!!
Dnk
Yes i agree its easy to find the bad ones as theres so bloody many of them, very sad isn't. You'll have to move up the country a bit and i'll give you a good list of proper places to use

L33
I think learn my self is more like it as moving house to find a trust worthy garage is a bit OTT me and spanners don't usually get on I'm a bit impatient and hammer happy but I did fix my leaking gear box sump after it was bodged together I tried the distance thing any way by having my single build done 2 hours from me! If I new what I do now I wud of gone a lot further and used some of the other garages on here! Even tho the one I used WAS a trader on here Edited April 1, 2010 by L33 (see edit history)

SteveR
yeah, I may be a bit over cautious and take longe rot get something done, but it gets done properly and I'd but that than be a little too attack-happy and regret it.
L33
Hammer happy and working on your own car doesn't sound like a good idea to me Exactly! If a job consists of any thing more than a 13mm spanner and a hammer I'm screwed I would happily have ago my self if some one was there to instruct me like my sump! I was at a mechanic friends garage and he told me what to do and I done it but had some one there is I was stuck! And had more tools than my hammer I've actually learnt a bit from my gf who spent a year doin mechanics before she got bullied a lot and got hit around so couldn't bare working where she was and all the other places laughed her out there office shame really! But before I put my uk brakes on she changed all my disks and pads which were perfect but the uk ones I've had fitted new by a 'professional outfit' have done nothing but squeel at me where we think there is no copper paste stuff put on so squeeks under braking!!
