marc_p
I've been offered a mk1 MX-5 1.8 V-Spec at a really good price and thinking about getting it as my daily driver and selling the Civic but wondering if anyone else here owns or has owned one and what your veiw is on them as there supposed to be spectacular in the handling department (and with some wide wheels and riveted on arches it would look rather snazzy aswell:cool:)
Snooze
As long as you don't get an auto, and you can put up with the hairdresser jokes, you really can't go wrong with an MX5. Great little cars - cheap to run, easy to work on and some standard off-the-shelf mods (BBR turbo kit) if you're that way inclined!
Dave17
I didn't know you liked hair dressing?
AndrewOW
Ask Garfy. He works on them all the time as his hobby.
Konrad
I do have 1.8 mk1 california edition, it's cracking little car, they hold to road like s%@t to shovel, loves high revs and very robust engines. Only problems I had with mine was rusting rear wings, got it repaired and except for this I only service it and it goes perfectly.

Blackie
I didn't know you liked hair dressing? I'll second that, I was going to say the exact same thing
marc_p
Cheers guy's, think I'll go for it, might save myself some money cutting my own hair aswell:D Everyone I've asked so far who has had one has had nothing but good things to say about them. mx5? no. even as a daily driver? no. Why? I understand that people might of had issues with them but could you expand on the problems you may of had?
AlexM
I've yet to hear a bad thing about them. If I could get over the looks, I'd have one (or probably two).
The-Plethora
Great cars but I have heard about rusty arches as well.
Lbm
Well, as you like Rihanna (and probably JLS) it would be the perfect addition to compliment your lifestyle Actually, an old gf used to have one and I thought it was great fun to drive. So yeah, go for it
stevie_b
I'd say go for it, as long as your 2nd car is for fun and you don't need to carry loads of stuff around. PS Short back and sides please, and cut it straight along the back of the neck.
Chris Wilson
Great cars, watch for rust (especially later models). Personally I think the autos are nice... Wouldn't have anything else if I lived back in a city, but depends on your needs. Get a hard top if you can, they make them so much nicer in the winter. Just done a rather nice engine for an MX-
Brazil
They are great cars, you can also mod it with a couple of 'Puddles' wearing a sparkly collar..! hahaha
Lbm
Poodles? Although I prefer puddles for some reason.
AJI
I've been offered a mk1 MX-5 1.8 V-Spec at a really good price and thinking about getting it as my daily driver and selling the Civic but wondering if anyone else here owns or has owned one and what your veiw is on them as there supposed to be spectacular in the handling department (and with some wide wheels and riveted on arches it would look rather snazzy aswell:cool:) Nice little cars, even the Mk1's. Putting aside the usual jokes with these, they are good fun to drive. They are 'eager' off the line and they give a fun handling experience. Cheap enough to run and basic engineering means usually easy to maintian. The only usual negative I can put on them for what they are is the brakes. The standard pads/discs do not give conifdence. (An easy fix if you wish to spend a few more quid).
marc_p
Great cars but I have heard about rusty arches as well. This one is an import and has only been used as a sunday car and always garaged so no rust whatsoever, only problem is a slightly sticking front calliper but that's easily fixed:)
AndrewOW
It may also be a good idea to ask ClassOne about MX5s, as he's been hairdressing for years.
RobSheffield
I think it would suit you perfectly, seems strange that people didnt know about your 'gents hairdressing' experience, id have thought it was obvious from looking at you.
