jevansio
Good work Jay,nice and simple to ram the air in ,might get the pipework done on mine. Cheers Stu, did some calc earlier today to guess the rough performance of this setup, 1st up the amount of air a 3.0 @ 1.6 BAR ingests in litres/sec at various rpms rpm 0 1000 2000 3000 4000 5000 6000 7000 8000 ltr 0 40 80 120 160 200 240 280 320 Next the amout of air the tube can provide at varying vehicle speeds (assuming the amount of air = the volume a 4" circle travelling at vehicle speed covers) mph 0 20 40 60 80 100 120 140 160 180 200 ltr 0 70 140 211 281 351 421 491 562 632 702 So hopefull anything over 100 it should be ramming at least enough air no matter what the engine speed, and between 60-100 should be supplying enough if my gear is sensible (ie not screaming along in 2nd @ 8k )

jevansio
Todays progress. Started by making the angle bracket that holds the two pieces together, also started on the template for the lid Next up the lid cut, (I used 2mm aluminium BTW) Then the hole cut for the intake pipe, I cut it big so I could use some rubber strip to get a flexible airtight seal Next the lid was cut to shape & bent I nearly called it a day at this point as I didn't have enough rubber strip to trim the edges. I went down my good friend Paul Woods & he kindly let me take as much door strip/boot rubber from an MR2 he had. The boot rubber is perfect for the intake hole due to it's flexible seal, and the door seal was great for trimming the other edges. A pic of the side trimmed up & ready to install Finally a couple of the pics with the lid taped in place Tomorrows taks is to make some edges so the lid fits like a "shoe box lid" and to make brackets to secure the lid in place

hadyn
Box looks great though mate, well done. Real quality build. Truly inspirational. Would inspire me to do something with my filter on the stock setup if I still had a Supra...

jevansio
Next stage= built in refrigeration nice job Jay:thumbs: , only if it keeps my beers cold too Looking forward to seeing what difference it makes on the road, On a side note, today I cut my intake pipe so that it finished as soon as it enters the air filter, previously it stuck a good couple of inches inside the filter. Boy what a difference in noise, I mean quieter, if you want some induction noise have your intake pipe shoved further into the filter, might be crap for a smooth airflow, but boy does it sound Edited April 2, 2010 by jevansio (see edit history)
Tricky-Ricky
Its big enough:p its surprising what a difference the intake design makes, there are some filter's that have a shaped intake area for just that reason.
hodge
Erm isn't that rubber trim the stuff I gave you a bit ago for your intercooler piping hole. Great work. Your getting a bit of a talkent for all this fabrication think I'll employ you when SBA tuning kicks off.

jevansio
Lol, I did use that, but there wasn't a lot of it esp by the time I'd cut it up & decided where to use it, all the stuff in the pics is off an MR2 Sure be happy to help
JamesC
Loving the work on this Jay. I tried to do one on mine and it was an obvious amateur effort!
jevansio
Right I finished this off tonight. 1st up to hold the lid on I riveted some brackets onto the sides. On each bracket I used some captive nuts so that I could use bolts through the lid to simplfy fitting. I remade the lid as I kind of fecked up the 1st one. 2nd time around I did it perfect and only used 2 of the 4 brackets as it was so secure. It kept the lid looking cleaner too: I've got some heat reflective tape from my mate which I will use on the sides, which will not only keep heat out but cover the untidy rivets, but other than that it's done

Kev.O
Looks great Jay. Really tidy. Have you considered replacing the radiator expansion bottle pipe with maybe a black one?
