jonathanc
I paid £1.33 a litre for diesel yesterday, it was awesome. ouch.... I paid around £1.14 for diesel and the price for petrol was the same as diesel as well lol. Diesel powerrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Lbm
I didn't know you liked petrol station sandwiches *that* much?? I think we should just burn all our petrol in protest. I suppose I could queue for a bit longer if I reminded myself of all those petrol station culinary possibilities. And as that egg & bacon beauty we mentioned the other day is only available from Shell, I suppose I wouldn't boycott them.
CJ
I had to check the date on the first post of this thread to make sure it wasn't a revived thread from about 2001! I think it was copied and pasted with just a few amendments
Lbm
Unfortunately the apathy of us brits will never allow us to stir up the necessary momentum for change. If you want to make a difference do what the french do and block the ports, stop the big business from making money as they are the guys who make the difference regarding the government. Or we all agree to pay 50% income tax and perhaps the fuel prices would be reduced and NHS would be improved.

I think that it hurts us more than the Oil companies.

DanGX
Just announed in the budget: Next month's fuel duty increase will be staged. It will rise by 1% in April, 1% in October and 1% January. Ohhh for FFS, really? I was reading in the paper yesterday that the American's were moaning that they were paying more than they've ever had to pay before, for fuel. The thing is the same article stated that on average, they pay 85p per litre of petrol! We seem to enjoy being bent over and jousted and over and over again...fiscally speaking. We need another Guy Fawkes. One that does the job right this time.
Terminator
Given the huge tax revenue and massive profits, and every driver in the country being dependent on petrol chemicals, they really have us by the short and curlies. Whilst the sentiment is good it will never work, any forward this email always gets chucked in the bin by me and probably the majority of others. To hit even one company hard it would need such a huge percentage of all road users to do this in a long term approach to even make a small dent in company income. However we did manage to knock the Simon Cowell machine off the Christmas number one. So perhaps Youtube is the way to go. Perhaps a well put together interview type thing on the web might get some momentum, big enough to get to national new. If it managed that, then there might be a very slight chance that the movement could gain enough momentum to have a nation impact. Individuals don't want to be inconvenienced, that is the biggest block to any campaign.

That's the problem, buying a single on the net is a lot easier than driving 5 miles out of your normal route to work. We'd also need a list of who supplies all the supermarkets and small name garages. I think it would be a better incentive to stop using cars, to get rid of road tax and just use fuel as the tax - admittedly then they would hike fuel to stupid amounts costing us a LOT more than tax used to, in the name of replacing road fund. "I want to buy that Bentley, how much is it?" "If you have to ask, then you can't afford it." "Erm.... Well.... I have 57 million pounds in cash in my pocket, so do I just hand over a blank cheque then?"
Brazil
Well guys, fuel prices is only going to increase its a simple equation 'Increase of Demand + Not enough Oil = 300 Dollars a Barrel within 10yrs...! China is growing so fast and there fuel demand is enormous..! They alone are going to be a huge influence in Oil Prices..! Funny I am writing this whilst on a Chevron Offshore Drilling Rig in Angola. We just finished drilling an exploration well... Please dont boycott fuel prices..! I want a fat bonus this year....! hahaha

RedM
You think petrol has increased of late. You should see the increase in 1,1,1,2-Tetrafluoroethane. OMGZ!

Guest Rays the roof
As a club we should make a stand and all trade our Supra's in for a Toyota Prius. Yes it's not quite as responsive and the brakes may not actually work, but imagine the impact on tax recovered by the government from us. That will make them listen.......... madwoody1
its all right saying petrol prices can keep going up and stop moaning about the price, but all it means is that little f*****s can steal petrol from your motor not to bad if they take it out the tank via the filler but when they drill your plastic fuel tank then it becomes a problem
JS2004
Just announed in the budget: Next month's fuel duty increase will be staged. It will rise by 1% in April, 1% in October and 1% January. so is this a 3% rise, or will it be a 1% rise on ((x+1%)+1%) by Jan? Either way were going to keep on buying it. same with cigs and booze. Can imagine cider drinkers are not too happy. I dont know how long the oil reserves are going to last but my old man was reading something about exponential growth that had been written in relation to oil reserves It had in it a "quiz" type of scenario: if you take an empty bottle at 11am, and add an ameoba in it, which will multiply every minute.. and if by 12pm the bottle is full - how long does it take for the bottle to be half full? If you work it out it demonstrates how quickly were using the stuff, and will continue to use it going forwards. Maybe the increase has slowed a little, as people are trying to be more efficient with energy etc, but were still using a hell of a lot of the stuff. Cant imagine ill ever see a price cut in petrol. Sucks that the government takes so much tax from it though.
caseys
Just announed in the budget: Next month's fuel duty increase will be staged. It will rise by 1% in April, 1% in October and 1% January. That actually is worse for us in the long run. Duty currently £0.5619/Litre If it went up by 3% next month £0.5787/Litre Otherwise if it goes up 1% in 3 stages... £0.5619 x 1.01 = 0.5675 £0.5675 x 1.01 = 0.5732 £0.5732 x 1.01 = 0.5789 Glad it's a duty by volume, rather than a duty on cost price. Otherwise we'd just be completely shafted.
Abz
Come on guys be fair, if we tell the government to reduce the taxes how else will they get a couple of houses for free, be able to get their moat cleaned or buy porn? I think as tax payers we really being unfair. If it wasn't for us giving 40% of our earnings (maybe more including Tax duty and VAT) then how else would you expect the country to run? The local council take over £2k alone in a year but they still have trouble collecting the bins & sorting out the massive holes in our roads or trimming the trees. They are pretty good at giving single mothers brand new flats and money to spend on jimmy choo's or is that shoes. Next thing they will be taxing us on waste.... oh yeah they already do. Allegedly its a democracy - of the people, by the people and for the people. They are just highlighting what our society has turned into - no different to the bad apples amongst us. Trouble is, we are too comfortable and lazy to do anything about it.
