sidewaysbad
Thanks for the info folks, Looks like I'll get it replaced next week.. I'll start saving for a conversion too. The J-spec brakes just don't give me confidence and the other side could go too. beautiful sunshine and the car's sitting doing nothing. I'm gutted. Terminator
Due to the design of the calliper it is easy to crack if too much pressure is applied to the nipple. So many people don’t know what they are doing when they bleed brakes. Too many people really give the spanner a good heave as if the nipple is holding something on the car. They just need light finger pressure to make a seal. You must have a decent dial gauge to make sure you have disk run out in spec when you fit the UK discs. A good pair of snips makes short work of the backing plates. When fitted correctly you will out brake most cars on the road. A short term measure may be some CW pads in your JDM brakes, they make a huge difference.
terawua
I got my dial gauge from http://www.axminster.co.uk then just use your old disc as a stable mounting surface for the magnetic base for the dial gauge... I had a photo somewhere.... oh well
terawua
does this also happen with UK calipers? By the way, front JSpec calipers from here appear to be £58 each, UK Spec £4 more each. 64 Quid for a caliper? does that include pistons seals and boots and nipples (ooer!) Jake
64 Quid for a caliper? does that include pistons seals and boots and nipples It does .... but they NEVER have any stock of UK calipers. Waste of time, been posted here loads of times but nobody AFAIAA has ever managed to get UK calipers from them.
terawua
that sounds about right jake... the crux of my post ws that I was a little surprised that this could be the case.

Well the ones that I checked a couple of weeks ago were in stock (front or rear, can't remember, but one set was in stock the other one wasn't. )
Matt_J
Had exactly the same problem with my j-spec caliper. Jemco (McCarthy's Toyota) wanted to charge me £275 for 1 new caliper.
Soonto_HAS_soop
Well the ones that I checked a couple of weeks ago were in stock (front or rear, can't remember, but one set was in stock the other one wasn't. ) They have the rears I think, but never have the fronts. Also they work on a returns basis, send your old one, they send you a refurbed one etc etc.
JohnA
'returns basis'? Hmmm, that's not mentioned on the site, good to know it.
