Soarer v8 into supra ?

Yes before I ordered the plate. I have a very nice v8 here from a Soarer that I am going to put in but I am on a tight budget so no high spec engine build for me. It will go in as is and then given a bit of a liven up with my T78 turbo

Ooh, turbo'd V8 .

If ya need any help/info let me know :)

There are plenty of options for bolting a manual box to a 1UZ, depending on how much you want to spend and how much you can do yourself - bellhousings, crankcase to bellhousing adaptors, bellhousing to gearbox adaptors, CNC files to have bellhousing to gearbox adaptors made, doing it yourself with a hacksaw and a drill...

Thanks for that, i am sure you are going to regret offering :p

First thing I need to sort out is the adapter plate for the v160 gearbox.. Did you use the TTC Performance one?

Yeah I did, it came as a kit with the engine. I had a couple of issues with it, but easily solvable with some different length bolts and a bit of minor fettling. Its mostly just a straight fit and is made from good quality material. As mentioned, there is some great info on v-eight.com, and I believe some files too for you to download and give to a machine shop. I also know of someone who made his own and which works fine, he may still have the template he made, I'll ask him.

I am confused now :(

I asked about this CAD file http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200320526425&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:MOTORS:1123 That is advertised on V-eight.com

I asked:

"Could you confirm this will also fit a 1UZ to a V160/V161 gearbox? The V160/V161 box is a direct fit to the 2JZ engine as is the W58"

and the reply I got was:

"sorry, no this wont fit the v160. this adapter

converts between the auto bellhousing and the

gearbox. not between the motor and the bellhousing"

So is there another CAD file around somewhere that I have missed for a plate to join the 1uz to the V160 box?

No. The CAD files are for adaptors which fit between the 1UZ to A340 bellhousing and the (W58/R154/T56) gearbox.

IIRC, the V160 has an integral bellhousing, so any adaptor has to fit between the 1UZ crankcase and the V160 bellhousing.

Which gearbox to you intend to use? The simple (relative term :)) option would be a manual N/A Supra, Soarer V8 engine mounts, and something to bolt the 1UZ to the W58. If that's the plan, then you could use:

1) TTC's adaptor or similar, which joins the 1UZ crankcase bolt pattern to the JZ crankcase pattern, and the stock W58 bellhousing

2) a bellhousing from, say, Castlemaine Rod Shop in Australia

3) an off-the-shelf 1UZ bellhousing to W58 adaptor from, say, some guy in New Zealand whose name I forget

4) a 1UZ bellhousing to W58 adaptor machined from the CAD file.

Remember that you also have to sort out a clutch. Options 1 and 2 could use the W58 clutch release (or at least the mechanism supplied with the CRS or whatever bellhousing). Options 3 and 4 would need a hydraulic release bearing as used by EdMorris.

I have a v8 from a soarer and a v160 gearbox from my existing car, also have a OS Gilken triple plate clutch, so it is just the flywheel and adapter plate I need to sort out (for now)

Only just got the V8 out of the soarer today and have not split it from the auto gearbox yet so have no idea if it is possible yet but I am hoping to use the 2jz flywheel.

Both the engine mounts (rubber bit) have split so need to find new mounts and as space will be very tight down the sides of engine bay am looking to put in stiffer mounts to limit engine movement, any ideas?

I looked around for more robust mounts and found it hard to source any. I did find some from a Jap tuning firm (can't recall who now), but couldn't order though there website so just plumped for the standard ones from Toyota.

Look at this thread - http://www.clublexus.com/forums/performance-and-maintenance/316384-97-sc400-getrag-v160-6-speed-swap-thread.html

Lots of good info, and Scott also made some engine mounts for his install. Get in touch, friendly chap and he might have some drawings now as lots of people have asked him (incl. me), for him to supply them. He's an engineer and the mounts he made were more than up to the job.

Thanks Ed

First hurdle, How do I remove the torque converter?

A spanner thin enough to fit between the converter and flywheel will be much to weak to undo flywheel bolts and I can't unbolt the converter without removing flywheel.

Looks like the only option is to cut through the bolts holding the converter to flywheel but how would you replace it if it was needed (lucky for me I don't) but I don't like mysteries.

I am sure you are right Steve, the flywheel is an integral part of the OS Giken clutch but I am going to get the starter ring machined off the OS Giken and then fit the starter ring from the original flywheel.

I will unfortunately have to get the flywheel bolt holes moved slightly too but the spigot on the end of the crank is an exact fit with the OS Giken flywheel and it looks like a 2jz pilot bearing will be an exact fit inside the spigot too.

Unfortunately bolt holes do not line up on OS Giken Flywheel

Thanks for that, Steve Manley on here has sorted out new Cam Belt, main oil seal and pilot bearing.

I have got my 1uz-v160 adaptor plate ordered from TTC performance and flywheel is at machine shop being modified. Also going to keep 1uz power steering pump in original location (opposite side to supra) so have moved fluid reservoir and re plumbed oil cooling pipes, so all going quite well so far

Now I need to know if I can do away with this as I need to reverse the inlet manifold. I think it is an ICV? and to do with cold starting/running?

Also do I need this? I am assuming it is also to do with cold weather starting?
