supra steveo
ive currently got one of my mums wheels off her gen 7 celica ( crapy 16s) and i am going to attempt to referb them, so ive got some primer, silver wheel spray and some clear laquer so what ive been told so far , sand the alloys down 3 coats of primer sanding down inbetween then 3 coats of silver and sand that down too then spray on some laquer so from what i gather i sand it down before putting the laquer on and is it just 1 coat of laquer ? this is gonna be fun lol

supra steveo
lol, will leave that till the morning if i manage to get up in time, they are in a right state like not much paint left on them seen a few gen 7s with the same kind on wear and corrosion on the alloys must of just been badly paint in the first place ?? jonathanc
Hmm I'm interested in this too. You will be taking the tyres off the wheels as well I reckon?
supra steveo
no leaving the tyres on just masking the tyres off
bigbloodyturbo
I tried refurbing the wheels on my prelude this way. All I can say is prep the wheel for AGES before you go in with chemical metal filler and primer, as when you spray the first layer of colour on it every little imperfection stands out like a sore thumb. I also found alloy silver paint looked a bit 'too' silvery, like it was trying to imitate polished metal which it'll never do. I decided to go for normal silver paint (think it was a ford colour) and that looked a lot better.
supra steveo
well first layer of primer down looks ok ive seen a few parts i am going to concentrate on when i sand it down for layer 2 so far so good ( touch wood )
jonathanc
well first layer of primer down looks ok ive seen a few parts i am going to concentrate on when i sand it down for layer 2 so far so good ( touch wood ) I have patches of bad corrosion on my wheels as well where the paint completely worn off exposing the alloy. That plus bubbling here and there. How hard did you sand during the first layer? Did you sand everything down to bare alloy? If you don't mind mate, can you post some pics of your refurb? Would be much appreciated! I am thinking of doing mine too with the tyres on. Saves couple hundred quid getting a new set of wheels.
supra steveo
2nd layer on now and it went all the way back to bare alloy i sanded fairly hand with one of those mouse things didnt sand it that hard after the first layer in fear of taking the primer all the way off
