Thorin
I'm still using Firefox (4.0 nightly builds), but Chrome is very nice, just not up to Firefox's level with all the plugins etc. Microsoft are still playing catchup, IE9 is not really much improvement over 8 at the moment. If you get to around 3 mins in the video on post 23 it shows huge advantages over Firefox, Chrome and IE8. The graphs Gav posted also show how much quicker IE9 is over IE8 on certain benchmarks so it seems HUGELY better.

Thorin
Webpage multimedia. Did you watch the video? No, I can't be arsed. HTML5?
Attero
Wow, I'm just trying out Firefox 4. It's changed a bit... but I'm not sure if the new tabs make any difference to size of the header, since if we want bookmarks on there, it pretty much makes it the same height. Thorin
Yup. Like I said then, Microsoft are still catching up
Scott
Like I said then, Microsoft are still catching up I don't follow. They have demo'd how much faster IE is than all the other competitors in HTML5, using the latest builds of each (Firefox and Chrome). How are they playing catchup? JustGav
I had completely forgotten about all of this I'm definitely a chrome-ite at the moment... simply because I have an estate consisting of linux and winblows boxen, and while it isn't a big deal, it is nice to have a single look and feel for the odd times I stick my head above the command line. edinlexusV8
Check these out (Still some way to go for IE9 hope the final build will be even better and faster). Looks like the better hardware you have including memory and graphics the best you can get out of IE. Not bad with standards compliance either. At this moment it is the most HTML5 compliant browser still a bit behind in CCS3. http://test.w3.org/html/tests/reporting/report.htm http://www.e-academy.ltd.uk/training-news/2010/internet-explorer-9-review
Scott
Anyone using this browser now? It is without a doubt the worst browser I have ever had to use. Slower than a week in the jail. Takes about 10 seconds to open and then browsing is PAINFULLY slow compared to what I am used to...... and I'm not talking Chrome speed.... I was VERY happy with IE8. Uninstall, uninstall, uninstall. M$ you have failed BIGTIME.

Scott
They'll always fail in the browser wars. I must admit I've never had a problem with IE, well other than 6 but that was just ridiculous. A lot of people bash IE and go on about firefox etc but I have never bothered to install other browsers... and I would consider myself a high end user. If there was a major benefit I would switch. In fact I have google chrome installed, I still use IE as my default..... well I do now that I have 8 back.

If you have a high end machine with good graphics memory IE9 is blisteringly fast as I found out on our office workstation but on my personal laptop Corei3 with integrated graphics Chrome beats IE9 handsdown. If you have a high end machine with good graphics memory IE9 is blisteringly fast as I found out on our office workstation but on my personal laptop Corei3 with integrated graphics Chrome beats IE9 handsdown. Experience index 4.9 so not bad at all. 2.1ghz Core2Duo, 4GB DDR 3 Ram, the works. It is a laptop though. Oh, 1gb non-shared DDR3 gfx too. Hardware acceleration was turned on in the browser, and working fine. Upgraded the GFX drivers just to be on the safe side, still a crap experience. I have no doubt that once you open up a page, get it to eventually load the flash player and then play the movie/app that it runs blisteringly quick. For something as simple as opening up google, searching and clicking on a search it takes, what seems like, forever. The last straw was when I clicked on the "e" icon on my taskbar, waited a few seconds, clicked the "G" icon on my taskbar and google chrome was opened at my homepage wayyyyy before IE was. I'm now back to IE8 and happy as larry.
RedM
I had one of those rare occasions where I use Windows recently. I took the opportunity to update everything and also got IE9. What a dog fart. I gave it five minutes of my time and went back to Firefox 4.

I quite happy with IE8 TBH, though I have to admit I do find Chrome slightly quicker. Only sticking to using IE8 on this laptop because Citrix doesn't work so brilliantly on it. Think it sucks though if they putting out a new browser and tell you that you need state of the art hardware Or it will be a rubbish experience. Surely the application shouldn't be too heavy to ensure a good user response\experience.

Chrome is noticeably faster but I just prefer the feel of IE8, although it is looking a little dated. I guess I was just used to the options and layout more than anything. IE9 is shocking though. I don't think it's down to my PC being down on power either. I can run silly games from my laptop, if it takes more power to run a browser then M$ are seriously pissing into the wind. My laptop has more power than most peoples desktop computers and for M$ to offer this as an open upgrade is just silly IMO.
edinlexusV8
Some where I read IE9 is the most energy efficient browser ...Says Engadget http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/29/ie9-is-the-most-energy-efficient-modern-browser-according-to-mi/ I just dont think your bad experience is down to just IE9 there must be something else causing an issue ... try and load the browser with no addons and see how it feels browsing general content not youtube and other flash based sites ... If you upgraded from IE8 I think some addons might not be compatible with the new version. Anyway give that a try and see.

I'm not faffing around with something that should work right out of the box. it asked about addons at one point and I turned everything off, made no difference anyway. IMO it's a failure, I don't care who says what. If I download it, install it and it's crap.... then IMO it's crap. I'll stick with that opinion until an update or an announcement comes out explaining why it was crap and that they have fixed it. There is something wrong with the browser, well either that or it's just slow at trivial stuff, what that something is isn't for me to determin.
