RobSheffield
Gently if you please Well Dave. Or David. Although i had you down as being a thoroughly nice chap, it may in fact be, and no offence here, but you might be a, well, a hair adjustment technician
Dave17
Oh dear I knew that set of GHD's i bought the other day would be my downfall
Tom
For a daily i'd personally not waste my money on something thats only going to get you 20mpg, can't see the point in throwing money away like that, i'd probably look at is200's for a daily(though i'd actually find something diesel but im guessing you wont be wanting that ) and an s13 for the track, that or something n/a, mr2 would be a good option tbh if you cant stretch to a turbo
Dave_SZ-R
A happy man with mind and body in perfect harmony with machine on road and track. Wise words there from Rob, the man is a linguistic genius! Not a bad idea having an NA MR2 for the road and a turbo for the track, however its still gonna leave me a bit fecked in ice and snow. My track car wont be SORNed or getting trailered about, itll just be getting used significantly less than my daily (and put on a limited mileage insurance policy to save cash). Ive been e-mailing owners of cheap Impreza turbo wagons ( Unless someone can suggest a better (naturally aspirated?) alternative then Ill be going for one of these two. Just need to decide on a daily now. Alot of Accord type Rs going for low £2ks just now, although they get snapped up quick. Still looking at MX5s even though I know I shouldnt. NA MR2s with tasteful cosmetic mods are also appealing... Still open to suggestions on this guys, gonna have to break out my current track car for daily use soon:

Perhaps we need to pay more attention to your lust for housewife reindeer than to choosing you some new transport Dave.
Dave_SZ-R
track dc2 Id love a DC2, but theyre out of my budget. Your the second person to recommend an Audi for a daily, which one in particular?

Dave_SZ-R
Track- 4th Gen Honda Prelude 2.2 Vtec ( can pick these up for a grand) Interesting- naturally aspirated and relatively powerful... I may have overlooked the Prelude. Id have an NA track car if I could help it, theyre just that bit less likely to go wrong than turbo cars. That said Impreza 2.0 turbos are going for not much over £1k, and are actually quite reliable despite what some might say. Off to trawl through some Preludes now. Supra Noodle
Have had both Preludes and Impreza, and speaking from just my own experience both great cars. The Prelude is seriously under rated (just my opinion). I did on the other hand have nothing but trouble with the Impreza, but would buy another. Neil-NA
The only issue with the MX5 is space (Im 6'2") Matey i'm 6'3" and have had 2 mx5's a 1.6 and 1.8 you should be able to fit quite comfortably in them as they are bigger than you think. I also happen to have a 1.6 with HT for sale Great little cars and if i ever decide i want to get into track days then that is the car i would buy. bluecoup
was thinking audi oil burner to keep running cost down forgot about the lude had a 5thgen before the supra, the rear wheel steer is amazing when you get used to it, used to really freak people out going round parked cars etc as the back swings out, although it can be problematic i never had and problems with mine

Brilliant well built cars. Comfortable plus good on the fuel economy too. However, I don't really see them track cars. Could be a daily driver though. They are cheap as chips now. Look out for the Type S version. Really nice!
Guest whytie
Do you like gtir's, ive had many and still own 2. They are always over looked and underestimated, quick car and most of all really fun to drive. They go for cheap these days.

Gaz6002
GTI-Rs do eat gearboxes though, in all fairness. I wouldn't like to pay to track one for a year...
Abz
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1458946.htm Best of both world's and you only pay one insurance, road tax, MOT, tickets. Maybe use the rest for an LPG conversion?
stevie_b
Mr2 2.0 16V for the road, MR2 2.0 turbo for the track. The focussed track car will make you appreciate the refined MR2 on the road, which will make you appreciate the raw power on the track. A happy man with mind and body in perfect harmony with machine on road and track. No hairdresser image (unless its red or yellow) Both robust, cheap parts, you will learn the mechanicals very quickly, parts transfer, what more could you ask? Or do similar but with Celicas. ST205 for the track, and the GT 2 litre version for a daily.
Dave_SZ-R
Some great suggestions so far guys, this thread really has been helpful to me. Im going to view: -1993 Honda Prelude 2.2 VTi, 83k with OZ alloys & good tyres, full stainless steel exhaust and some other bits. -1994 MR2 GT (T-Bar), 93k UK car with nice wheels, aftermarket exhaust, recent clutch and service. Both at or below budget as well. Like the idea of the big VTec engine and the relatively low mileage on the Prelude. Also like the looks of the MR2 (facelift lights, clean white bodywork) and the mid-engine layout. Both fit the trackday brief in that they are relatively powerful and naturally aspirated (not sure where my sudden fear of FI has come from!). Still struggling for daily drivers, being too fussy when I should be thinking of something more functional. Gonna try and do 4 or 5 trackdays at Knockhill this summer starting in April so focussing on the track toy just now.
