Just returned from the vets minus Buster Hes not been in the best of health for a couple of years, had fits, lost weight, skin condition but has always been happy in himself. But today, he just looked, well sad. Took him for a walk which he loved normall but just wasnt interested, then on the way home he just stopped walking and stood there, like he didnt want to go on.

Then this afternoon he plodded up to me, drooling, heavy breathing and had that look, you know, he knows its time.

We got him from a rescue centre 4 years ago aged 10 after he had a hard life, covered in lumps and bumps, long tail broken on places, wonky ear, so hes about 14 and a half, good time for a boxer.

Sorry for rambling, I was fully prepared for the inevitable but when it happens...

Heres to Buster, a real character and a local legend.

Cheers guys, yes he was a fine old dog, would do anything for a prawn cracker lol, loved his walks and the pub. I always believed in the 'they know its time thing' but when you look in those dark eyes and can see the battle's lost its a different story.

Even though he was an old rescue dog and I steeled myself for the enevitable, still tore me up inside :( Oh well, on the phone to the boxer rescue tomorrow for a new one lol

Paul and Gordy, my bro and I pride ourselves in the fact we did all we could to give an old dog a great life, even in his last weeks he was happy in himself :)

Charlotte, you and me both :( He was definately the runt of the litter with his long un-boxer tail, skinny little legs and general small size but his personality more than made up for it lol

Good on you for taking a rescue dog and for going to get another.

Here in Mexico City it really pisses me off seeing hundreds of beautiful stray dogs in the street starving and then you go to the local markets and there are scumbags with 50 puppyies in a small cage climbing all over each other and covered in shit. How can the government allow them to sell more dogs when the streets are full of unwanted dogs.

Yesterday I was at a cafe and a beautiful, female, maltese terrier came up to me, she was no more than 6 months old, I gave her my dinner and people were looking at me like I was crazy. It infuriated me when a mother walking her daughter passed the dog and said "ten cuidado" to her daughter which means Be Careful! and I responded Be Careful with what, it is a starving puppy. They teach their kids to be scared of animals. Yes it is a poor city but they are obviously not short of food judging by the obesity rate of children here.

Thanks god we lived in a civilized country where animals are, in the main, respected and it is thanks to guys like you.
