Help Please - Which is the best Sat Nav to buy

Hi,

Just wanted to get peoples opinions/ recommendations of what is the best Sat Nav to get nowadays.

My family bought me a Navman S30 3D just over a year ago, and to be honest it's been a bit of a pain, trying to get me to turn left when theres no turning, etc. but I have learnt to put up with it. However this week after going over a really minor bump in the road it has given up the ghost, and now when I turn it on it won't load any of the maps and shows that I am completely surrounded by speed cameras

So I think its time to get rid, but I am unsure what to replace it with. I need something reliable which also gives reason distance warnings (something my current one is crap at) as I am doing quite a bit of travelling with work nowadays - so any recommendations/ opinions would be appreciated.

Cheers

Sharon

I would say TomTom is choice of majority, so you could go for it :)

I am just looking at the reviews on the internet about Tom Toms and there are a few reviews complaining about screen freezing. :search:

I am getting the feeling though that it is between Tom Tom and Garmin.

I suggest a male passenger would be the best sat nav you could buy...! hahaha

Only playing...haha I also have had tom tom for 1yr and no problems..! such a good investment..!

If I had a male passenger I would make him drive as well, as they say "Why have a dog and bak yourself" :D

Although its not in this league I have been using CoPilot on my iPhone and think its brilliant for what it costs. Less than £30.00 app and many features that could give TomTom and Garmin a run for their money!

Would not recommend it over a dedicated sat nav unit but as something to have as a backup its great.

Garmin are the best IMO. It's been proved in many different tests, plus they use them on planes and boats. I can't fault mine. My friend's Tom Tom however is a different story...

Yup. If their kit is good enough for someone navigating a yacht across the English Channel, then it's good enough for me to point my car around Hampshire.

My Garmin does like to take me down quite minor roads though, even though I've got it set to "fastest route" not "shortest route". I'd be interested to hear if satnavs tend to do that generally (i.e. a high propensity to use very minor roads: we're talking unclassified roads here, below B-road).
