Samsung Moment.

Nope, not that one, it is a GOOD chunk smaller than that.... I'll see if I can find it...

Whoops, it is a sony ericsson unit, not samsung!

Not a huge fan, WAY too small, but definitely is a good device from a tech point of view.

My first PDA (i-Mate JAM) ran Pocket PC 2003 Mobile too. Since then I've had a TyTn on WM5, an HTC Touch Diamond on WM6 and my current phone an HD2 on WM6.5

As far as usability out of the box, the Diamond won hands down. I had to do a load of tweaking and installing third party apps to make the JAM and TyTn do what I wanted. WM6 seemed to have it all. Now with WM6.5 I'm finding I'm having to change the odd registry value here and there and install some apps to do simple stuff like map the softkeys. Nothing major, just a backwards step in usability. However the whole look and feel of WM6.5 kind of annoyed me to start with but I'm used to it now, and it does work well with the HD2's massive multitouch screen.

TBH I'm not app-mad, so having a huge app store isn't a key selling point for me. The only "real" app I have is to keep track of my archery scores. I use my PDA primarily for storing contacts, appointments and sat nav as well as of course phone and text, but right back to my JAM I was able to surf the web, send e-mails and play media which is why I R on the F, L'ing my A off when someone says that the iPhone is the "first phone to be like a mini PC". :)

I am writing a database application on my PC at the moment to allow me to record purchases on my phone and import them into my accounting software, which is the first "bespoke" PDA thing I've ever done.

I guess my beef with the iPhone is that to me it’s a simple to use fashion accessory first and a good gadget second. Apple's stroke of genius was to take (let's be honest) a second-rate smartphone and turn it into a must-have gadget. I'm an Engineer and a geek so I would rather have a good smartphone that it isn't necessarily cool to own - hence I had one waaaay before the iPhone crowd got told by the marketing people that they really needed one too ;)

I'm with you, I like to tinker and develop for the phone, so WinMo is the only way to go. Really want the HD2 when my contract is up (June).

The only thing I have against the HD2 is that it's Windows Mobile based and apparently the way the HTC user interface utilises some of the windows features is less than ideal. (And I have no experience of Win Mobile stuff) Great screen though - it's huge!

The new HTC Sense 2.5 hides most of the fiddly WinMo settings in it's own finger friendly ones.

It won't be upgradeable to the new WinMo 7 or whatever it's called this week.

Bit of a mobile dead-end.

BTW, the HTC Legend (or new Hero) doesn't have the new Snapdragon processor but is still much faster than the Hero. Shame it seems to be Vodafone only.

I'm not too fussed to not be upgrading to WinMo 7 as it's more locked down for developers, ala the Iphone.

Quick update on my HD2 (which I'm typing this on). I went to that London for a weekend with my better half, Soop Dogg and Angie and we used our phones to do practically everyting to get about. I must say that my HD2 and Brian's Hero were dead useful and probably on a par with each other. Maybe I had the edge for battery life and of course the bigger screen. I'm very happy with my choice now which is good considering I'm on a 24 month contract!

O2 have no idea about release dates for Apple's iPhone.

On a related note, I went into Orange yesterday asking about the HTC Legend and Desire phones. The staff had never heard of them despite Orange announcing that they'd definitely offering the Desire.

Same at Vodafone who are offering both. Same at Carphone Warehouse, Phones4U and Greggs. They guy selling Big Issues had heard of them but couldn't hook me up either.

So, why don't the staff at these places keep abreast of the latest phones? It's a ten minute job on the internet FFS.

Link? T-mobile don't do the Iphone. I think.. :search:

they do, but its through a sister company, they basically provide you with a simfree iphone and a tmobile simcard.

they only usually offer it for people with bills over 70£ per month too
