Digital speedos?

Hi Chris

I've seen a solution to this problem before. A thin steel disk was inserted between a pair of flanges on the propshaft. The disk has holes / gaps that will generate pulses when passed close to a speed sensor. It should be fairly easy to fabricate a custom disk to fit your application with the correct number of gaps and then make a custom bracket to hold an appropriate speed sensor. For an example see this page: http://www.etbinstruments.com/Sensors_ancillaries.htm

Thanks, that looks like a neat way to add a sensor. I have had a think about it today though, and as the drivetrain will be coming out and going in the new R33 GTR shell fairly soon I will buy a GPS speed read out for now, as it's supposed to be a road legal car. When the original gearbox goes back in the GTS-t shell I can just plug the original speedo wires in. The new car is having a Stack dash, which will read speed, and the new hubs will have ABS rings and I can bung in a sensor and read a front hub speed. Many thanks for the ideas.
