Spring rates

I will shortly be trialling a Jap manufacturers new 'budget' set of coilovers (750 quid all in so musnt grumble). The spring rate they recommend is 18Kg 12kg. I know theres much harder springs than this, but am interested in hearing anyone elses views on what spring rate is acceptable for fast road use without requiring replacement windows everytime one goes over a coin in the road. I want to improve cornering and handling over the stock JDM spec Bilstein setup without remortgaging ;)

All feedback welcome.

they sound OK. The problem I had with Teins were they felt bouncy, not tried the latest offerings though.

Thanks for the advice, but I'm not a big fan of Tein. Im sure they work great when bought brand new, but out of all the Jap imports that come over here with used coilovers on, its the people using Tein that seem to have suspension rebuilding on their shopping list. Just my 2p on that one.

Also, I like to try (when I can) something different and not use what everyone else is using. It can be a bit boring going to car shows and seeing that everyones done the same mods etc. etc.

Any advice on spring rates then ?

I think you were right about the old Tein HA's which seem to have been a problem in the past - 'clunky' I think was the general consensus - but these now have the benefit of full adjustability etc

You pays you money of course...for a couple of hundred more now you can get tried and tested HKS Hipermax

Also I dont know about you - but how can you tell you are using the same from the outside? :)

Jase Try a set of Eibachs and the whiteline ARB's and see how you feel. The billies are good, the eibachs too ( if a little soft) and the ARBs keep the car nice and flat.
