a98pmalcolm
Hay all. Ok a month or 2 ago i posted up a post asking what the price for a single turbo conversion would cost. Most of you were saying depending on what set up you go for your looking at £10k + , and my local motorsport tuner said he can do it for £8k as he can use the STD supra ecu and still get the good BHP figures as hes done quite a few of them. But im just wondering were all the prices build up? Iv been looking on the Whifbitz website and came accross this kit http://garagewhifbitz.co.uk/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=8739&category_id=2606&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=53 Im just wondering were the other £5 - £6k goes to? Surly cant be labour as that would be around an avage of 100 hours! Do they really take that long to do? Thanks Paul
nevins
Im guessing that the extra cash goes on uprating most parts like fuel pump, injectors and so on. Also if it was me a nice new big brake set up.
Scott
You can't use the stock ECU unless you want a really really small single (400-450hp), and for it not to run optimum. Single kit 3k ECU & Mapping 2k Injectors £500 Clutch £500 Fitting 1.5k New Seals £100 New Belts £100 New Oil Pump £130 New Water Pump £130 Odds & Sods £1k

Terminator
To make the most of the other upgrades, a set of 264 cams £650 or at least a 264 Exhaust cam £325. If the car is for road use only, UK brakes will do fine. -£2000
imi
Personally think you need to spend circa 4k on brakes before you better the uk setup. Edited March 11, 2010 by imi (see edit history)

RobSheffield
I think you need to pin down some details! What company does he work at/for/with?

As Rob says, if you are considering doing a single turbo conversion it is vital that you know all the details and are aware of exactly what you are getting for your money. I've no doubt the turner you asked can do a conversion for £8K, but unless you know exactly what parts they are using there is no way of knowing what you are getting for your money and how successful in terms of reliability and power the conversion will be. As an example if I was planning a single turbo conversion on a completely stock manual Supra with a power goal of around 500-600hp (flywheel), this would be the list of parts I would budget for. Parts would all be quality branded items, no cheap Ebay junk. Turbo Kit Turbo Blanket Front Mounted Intercooler Blow Off Valve and Flange - welding required. Cams - optional Adjustable Cam Gears - optional Exhaust Oil Cooler Radiator - I'd budget for a new one just in case. Fuel Pump - in tank. Fuel Injectors - drop in injectors using stock fuel rail. Clutch Standalone ECU, Harness, Sensors and Mapping Oil Lines, Fittings and Catch Tank Boost Controller Boost Gauge Oil Pressure Gauge Fuel Pressure Gauge AFR Gauge Gauge Pod Spark Plugs Oil Oil Filter Edited March 12, 2010 by Nic (see edit history)

Fuel Injectors - drop in injectors using stock fuel rail (getting done end of month) Clutch - getting done with flywheel in a week or 2 Boost Gauge Get get me wrong if i were to seriously say YES im goin ahead with it id make your i see the list of what im paying for and what im getting? But the start of the thread was my interest of were the extra costs were for the work.... Thanks Paul
RobSheffield
The costs are quite simply, in doing it properly. It is possible to do it on the cheap, but it wont be powerful, or if its powerful it wont be reliable. Old adage is 'cheap, reliable, fast - pick any 2'
hodge
its all the little extras you dont budget for that cost the most. I was totally shocked when I did the conversion on my Blue supra and added up the price of all the little bits, such as braided lines, vac lines, IC pipework, heat wrap nuts and bolts, fittings, gaskets etc etc etc.

Lee P
Dampner bypass not required. We did some testing on Jamie's car with this, not required below 580hp but if you want any more then it's a must.
