far
Hello All ! Just wondering if (1) anyone knows which is the best proctection software to use when using P2P - I heard 'peer gaurdian' is supposed to be pretty good, anyone know where I can get it from? I also have the following running: Mcafee Zone alarm Ad-aware SE SPY-BOT SPYWARE BLASTER (2) Should the above virus software be enough to protect my computer or should I invest in some more stuff more related to file sharing? I dont want any nasties on my PC and its the first time I will be running p2p (3) which P2P programme is safest & best to use prefably one which wont put any spyware on my computer Love FAR XXXX
MaveriK
Humm, good questions. I guess its all down to taste and i will say sorry now if i start to ramble but Mr Vodka came to visit last night and did his worst. Peer is ok but never really got on with it. I personally run the following:- SP2 Firewall Firewall on ADSL router (NAT & SPI) Sophos AV Microsoft Anti-Spyware BlockList Manager Protowall (V2 Beta) Blocklist Manager creates surprisingly a IP Blocklist which you import into Protowall which loads as a service in your network stack. As its running at a low level its very VERY affective. Both bits of code have huge forums which should cover all questions/queries. As for what P2P to use again its down to choice, i use Emule and Direct Connect. At the end of the day if people want to hack your machine they will unless you spend a gazillion on a monster hardware solution. What you want to try and do is make it difficult for Joe Bloggs to get access with numpty programs but still allow access for P2P to work. The above is by no means the absolute solution and Blocklist/Protowall can be got around be "Borrowing" an IP address from another proxy, address spoofing etc but it does stop alot of dross and rabbit hackers. Looking at your current protection the only thing i would query is the need for 3 spyware/malware solutions. Not knowing the products well enough i cant really comment but if they are active and not a passive product i would have thought they would clashed or caused contention. The following website is a good P2P resourse plus the forums i would rate with the guys on here for helpfullness :- http://www.drunkendonkey.net/eng/ Ok, i am going back to my hangover and does anyone know why the last orders bell seduces you into buying enough drink to drown a small nation? far
Thanks for all the useful info Maverik, I've downloaded blocklist manager but I am having lots pf problems getting protowall it keeps giving me the error message 'protowall.sys is not loaded install the driver and reload the app' There is a topic on the help section but Im not having any luck Any other programmes I can use instead of protowall that do the same thing? I think Zone Alarms works with blocklist manager - should this be ok? Thanks for your help hope the hang over is getting better!
