ray007
Remote start is awesome. I've never had so much fun with a car. In crowded car parks, I wander past the cars shouting "START" at random. When I get to my car, I shout "START" while secretly pressing the button in my pocket. The car starts, onlookers look very surprised, and I don my shiftiest face while getting in the car and pretending to steal it. I've also pretended to talk to my watch, saying "Please start KITT." IMHO, it's the best mod you can get, so do it! hi bud, what alarm/remote start are using? ive always wanted this facility. however im told it voids your insurance? Scott
I've had one since I got the Supra. The first one was in a 600 and it was wired pretending it was Auto (you could start it in gear). This cost me a nice crack in my front bumper lol. 2nd time round I got the 650 and had it wired in properly for a manual. Now you have to go through a small routine before getting out of the car. Cracking bit of kit in the winter. If you have a cat 1 alarm it nulifys it though. Insurance will no longer accept it as a cat 1 system. martini
Something I was thinking about getting for convenience in winter, but... If you have a cat 1 alarm it nulifys it though. Insurance will no longer accept it as a cat 1 system. I'm out

Dash Rendar
I don't really see a need for it other than playing silly buggers and showing off. Not that you need a better reason than that I suppose. I've found it great throughout this cold winter. I start the car from the kitchen and five minutes later I get in the car. It's warm, oil temp is 30-40 degrees, and the windscreen has defrosted. If you have a cat 1 alarm it nulifys it though. Insurance will no longer accept it as a cat 1 system. I believe this is a generalisation that's often untrue. With certain remote start alarm systems, with certificates of installation, it is still Thatcham Cat-1 approved. For example... http://www.clifford.co.uk/Products/Product.aspx?ProductID=750. "This Thatcham Category-1 system is one of the most advanced security and remote start systems in the world from Clifford with cutting edge 1-way 5-button remotes." caseys
I suppose it'd also be good use for tracking down your car in a car park if you're forgetful. Hit the button and wait for it to fire up. Unless you've got a stock exhaust that is

When I got my certificate of installation the guy said he shouldn't be giving me it due to the remote start module. With alarm systems with the remote start built in it is a different kettle of fish, when you add a module it nullify's the certificate as it only covers the main system. tbourner
I start the car from the kitchen and five minutes later I get in the car. It's warm, oil temp is 30-40 degrees, That's generally considered a bad thing for cars though, much better to drive it straight away! and the windscreen has defrosted. Now a remote windscreen demister/deicer would be a good one, I just don't want the engine running as well!
