Guest KernalRob
I have a 95 N/A 5 Speed (W58 Gearbox) When i start the car i get a whining noise from the clutch / gearbox which sounds like a bearing spinning (loudly) when i push the clutch pedal down the noise stops. I continue to get this noise as i am accelerating through the gears with the whining increasing as my engine speed increases. When i press the clutch down and rev the engine as im driving the noise stops so i know its not the engine. I've replaced my gearbox oil which did nothing and all the gears seem to select as normal. Anybody got any ideas what it could be!
Neil-NA
Sounds same as mine which i believe is the clutch release bearing.
AlexM
Probably the thrust bearing (though I changed mine, and still have the noise).

Guest KernalRob
Yep thought i might be the thrust bearing. Read some stories on here though of possibly Input shaft bearing so hoped it wont be that.

Guest KernalRob
Is there anyway you can check if it is the thrust bearing without replacing it.
