JS2004
I just tried watching something on Iplayer and got told my bandwidth isnt good enough.. I live in Hull, so I am unfortunately stuck with KC Communications and their pitiful offering of broadband.. "Karoo".. The test from the iplayer website has given the results attached.. Considering that I pay £25 a month for the internet connection alone.. this is rather annoying. What are you guys paying per month and what is your connection speed results? Here is the iplayer test link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/diagnostics Im just going to get on the phone and have a go.. its supposed to be the top package hence the cost @ 8 megs! Edit - the pc is hardwired to the router and I have nobody leeching on my connection as the router only allows MAC addresses that are authorised to connect. so its just this computer.. scotty71
Yes your speeds are poor, get on the phone and give them an ear bashing
JS2004
It would be quicker to drive down and bang on the door - theyve got me on hold.. I always go in with the intention of kicking off but then I remind myself the person on the end of the phone is just doing a job and then I back off =/

Glosphil
BTW - That was my home connection (done it remotely) I'm in a hotel in Germany right now and even then I get 5639kbps. I'd send yours back lol
JS2004
How much you pay / month for that?? (My jaw dropped) Just been through to them. Im on the "old package" which is ADSL 1 - this is not capable of the glorious speeds I am seeing on other peoples connections *grumble* but it does have an unlimited download limit. My average monthly download has fluctuated from 8 gig to 29.5gig - not sure how!! I only watch a few youtubes and only just discovered the glory of iplayer.. although online gaming is a common usage (but didnt think this used that much!). The new version they offer has capped download limits that charge £2 for every gig over you go - not impressed with that.. but for £24.99 I can get the ADSL 2 which should give good speeds and a 50gig limit. I need to figure out who is downloading though. Although the guy @ Karoo was knowledgable and helpful - I dont think the Karoo packages are that competitive - basically because they have a monopoly in Hull as they own the exchanges and lines - so nobody else supplies us (not even BT). http://www.karoo.co.uk/products/broadband/default.aspx
icemanv6
Yes mate, unfortunately there a bag of shite. I only get max of 100kb/s download speeds with them, pathetic.
Thorin
You're probably miles away from the exchange, we only get 1MB
Guest Suprafly
I'm with SKY and costs me £10 per month for "up to" 8meg download speed. I'm around 2 miles from the exchange and actually average around 3 meg download speed, about half a meg upload and 50 ms ping. So I'm not really grumbling about that, for my use it's fine, which is mostly web browsing, and online gaming on the PS3 so to me the most important figure is the ms ping (latency). supra dan
what actually is "ping" and whats a good number?
Guest Z-Kev
im getting 16-18meg speeds, with sky on the 20meg package, but i live across the road from the exchange, and my brother in law works for bt and has put me in a dedicated single line directly to the exchange so that might explain it
