pezzler
I have just take out a very flaky, perished rear window seal as it was passing rain and soaking my boot. The old seal came out easily enough with a bit of pulling and twisting; the problem I have now is fitting the new one I ordered a brand new from Toyota (£48 if anyone is interested), but it seems to be a very tight fit. I tried for over 2 hours to fit the seal, using washing up liquid, wd40, and hot water but no joy. Is there a certain nack to fitting window seals? Has anyone sucessfully fitted one of these before? I know it has been cold today, which will affect the plyabilty of the new seal, but I tried pushing this on until I got blisters - wondering if I was doing something wrong?? As it stands, i'm having to pull a sicky tomorrow to get the seal fitted. I'll probably take it over to autowindscreens or somewhere in the morning, but i'd still like to know just incase they have trouble - plus i'd like to hear that they're a PITA from someone else, it'll make me feel better
Scott
Have you tried string? Not sure if it works the same way as other seals but I would have the seal inside the car with string around it. Start it off and then pull the string out to fit the seal?
L18msy
I dont think the string thing will work as its a bonded window.I think you would be better cutting the window out and fitting the seal onto it when its out.By the sounds of things the window is leaking anyway and water shouldnt be able to get by the window even if the seal was out. Just fitting a seal wouldnt fix the leak imo.
SUPRALOOPY
Those rear screens are VERY expensive so please be careful. I think you have to have the screen taken out to fit the seal.

pezzler
Dont know if its just me but the jobs which seem to be the simplest, always cause me the most hassle......stupid Toyota.....
L18msy
Get auto windscreens to to it.If they break it the have to replace it.

Yeah, definately a good call The first time I havent been able to finish a job on the Supra, and it's only a bloody window seal! I'm such a failure
L18msy
I would rather fail the job than be nearly £600 out of pocket if something goes wrong. We sometimes cut windows out of cars in work when we are doing repairs and i dont like doing it.My backside twitches like a rabbits nose, ive broke a few in my time.Get them to do it and it will also cure the leak you have. devan
I have done it. It was hard, but only took a few hours. I got the head of a large hammer, and pushed it in with that. once you get it started its easy. I didnt use any lubricants or anything, so it can be done. Go out there are give it some beans!!! lol

pezzler
Me too, I left it in the hands of a professional though Had the glass removed; he removed all of the old putty from the bootlid and window, fitted the new seal on (which he did say was only possible if the window is out), resealed, and refitted. Took him 20mins, took me £40 - bargain
devan
Well im pretty sure i left the glass in when i fitted my seal... hmm...yes...i did leave the glass in lol.

a98pmalcolm
ahhh crap I forgot to make a post about this. I have ford seals on my windscreen and rear window.. SOOO much tidier and bigger than the toyota ones. A local place near me fits and supplies them for £150. I Need to make a post so you guys and see how much better they are. the rear ones just looks like a one piece seal.
