Steering Wheel Wobble..

I had a slight wobble on the steering wheel at about 80mph.. So had all the wheels balanced..

A week later, (Less than 40miles) the steering now judders eratically at 65+ and it doesn't seem to like turning right but turns left really fast (Makes sense?). I can't decide if its shoddy wheel balancing, Tracking, both or anything else.

It has Tein suspension and has been lowered - But never had a problem with it before..

I'm not driving it anymore till i get it looked at as i think the car's going to shake itself to bits...

Any advice would be very helpfull..

Thanks..

Have you got larger wheels on the car, with low profile tyres?

Check your tyres for wear as they begin to "feel" the road more when they are worn. You must also consider the surfaces you are driving on, the Supra is not the plushest of rides.

Check that all the wheels are seated properly and the nuts have been tightened, it is recommended to check them after having the wheels fitted on and off, as most places use an air ratchet to place them on, these can lack the torque required.

Hope this may be of help!

Could be a lot of things, I would take it to someone who knows about supras, who can get it on a lift and give it a thorough checking over underneath, could be anything from, steering rack, suspension bushes, wheel bearings etc, etc.

Sounds dangerous so I would get it done ASAP.

thanks chaps... Tyres are all fine.. loads of tread.. They are 18" split rims 265 35's onthe front and 285 30 18's on the back...

Tried driving out the wobble but no joy... :-(

I'd say the steering wheel shakes about 1/2" in both directions from 65+ on a newly finished road surface.

Not sure weather just to take it back to the place that balanced them to get them to check it again?

Emm

If it wasnt doing it before you had them balanced..then i WOULD take it back..but they will prob say something happened AFTER you had the weels done..anyway like Nic says it deff dont sound right, and needs looked at,as soon as...have you checked the wheel nuts are tight?.

have you got 'spriggets' on them (well i think thats what they are called) common thing when you put aftermarket wheels on is that you need the plastic caps that go over the center of the hub as the center of the alloy wheel is usually bigger...basically this part make the wheels fit on 'snug' so that stops the shaking of the steering wheel.

i hope this makes some sense!

will try and get a pic of one!

Wheels

These are mine /\

So yes, i have the cap thingy's....

Going to take the car back to the place and get them re-done and see if that fixes it.. Before i took the car in i did get a ever so slight wobble but it drove out.. So i'm guessnig its something the garage has done..

The wheel nuts are tighter than a nuns a*se, so they are not at fault :-)

you cant see the caps form the outside....you have to take the wheel off then the cap will either be in the center of the wheel (in the back) or stuck on the center of the hub.

Does anyone know what they are called?
