Weird Noises. :(

shifted

Recommended Posts

I have two videos, car has recently started to make weird noises again, I thought it was the Power Steering but it is full up with liquid like it should be so can't be that? Anyone know what the sound is?

I have to fix the starter motor (its failing - the contacts and plunger - got a how-to) but it shouldn't be anything to do with that?

Anyway, let me know what you think. :(

Kinda a weird ticking sound, you can hear it after the throttle is pushed better than when it isn't, but it was there constantly.

Any ideas/comments/help would be greatly appreciated. :)

It'll be the aux belt tensioner then, its decieving, When I first heard the noise on a Soarer I was convinced I had a cam bearing gone, turns out it was the tensioner.

If you look at the coil pack cover thendraw a line from it down the front of the block youll see a pulley, thats the tensioner. Its either the bearing in the pulley wheel or the mount on the block, my moneys on the mount.

could be the belt, I had a new toyota one and it squeeled on start up for weeks and then left an annoying and worrying ticking sound for the rest of the time it was running, I ended up buying a patent one from ebay before going to buy a new tensioner and low and behold the cheapy belt was silent :) worth changing the belt.

Having done a little digging for you, first thing I'd go is change the belt. Apparently some belts cause all sorts of noises. get one from toyota and go from there.

Thanks man! I will have to check it out, unfortunately here in Aus, if Toyota can even get the parts they are highly expensive. You would not happen to have a part number or a list of part numbers for future reference? :)

I will then try source a new set. :D

Have you got an example I can look at? I don't want to risk buying a part and I buy the wrong one, which in my experience, is bound to happen. lol

Would it be possible to pin point this on a photo?

Sorry for such a silly response, but I honestly have a bucketload to learn about cars. Are you talking about the area where there is a harmonic balancer? Ie, as per this photo:

Here is a shot of the engine bay, just in case. :)

sounds like it could be the exhaust manifold is blowing, what you could do is get a stethoscope/ tubing in the ear and listen to the engine whilst its running this may help you pinpoint the area of trouble, best of luck regards chris.
